Rory or Miles?

DS is due very soon and we are still torn between Rory and Miles. What are your thoughts?

Also wondering if it will become clear what his name is when we finally meet him? Or is that wishful thinking?

OP posts:

I love both OP, Rory was on our list for DS but we went with something else in the end. We didn’t decide on a name before he was born and had a shortlist of about 10; as soon as he was born I knew which one suited him. You’ll know!

stopchewingeverything · 16/07/2020 05:18

Both are nice but i love Rory! It was on my list for DS but DP didn't like it. It will be going back on my list for next time!

rumblingtumtum · 16/07/2020 05:34

Personally not a fan of Miles ... I don't know why but to me it sounds a bit to try hard to keep up with the Jones type of name.
I like Rory.

Emmmie · 16/07/2020 05:41

Rory 🙂

Tinamou · 16/07/2020 05:44

I would prefer Rory, except that I struggle to say it properly as I'm not very good with the R sound so it would come out as Wory! So for that reason I'd go for Miles.

Mrstwiddle · 16/07/2020 06:12

Miles just seems a bit wet, maybe because of the Frasier association

Lavenderblues · 16/07/2020 06:53

Lots of people struggle with their Rs. So I'd avoid Rory as it will be Wowy..!

Miles is lovely

Peachbubble · 16/07/2020 06:53

Rory, as not keen on Miles.

BikeRunSki · 16/07/2020 06:59

Miles is more unusual than Rory IME.
Frasier’s brother was Niles, not Miles.

daytripper28 · 16/07/2020 07:04

Rory - definitely

Grufallosfriends · 16/07/2020 07:29

Another one who can't pronounce the R very well. Imagine if your ds struggles too. Wo wey doesn't sound great unfortunately.

Miles is easy to pronounce for everyone.

Whatsyourflava · 16/07/2020 07:51

Miles is one of my favourite names!! Pick that

Sorry but if my experience is anything to go by then the name does NOT jump out at you at birth. Baby just looks like a baby and all names sound silly. I wish I had decided on a name before baby arrived because I then gave myself hours and days of stress trying to work out which name from the list "suited" a baby that just looked like a baby!

babynamelover · 16/07/2020 08:39

Much prefer Rory 😁.

123Dancewithme · 16/07/2020 14:30

Much prefer Miles! I’ve never been keen on Rory. The coolest boy at my school was called Miles.

MikeUniformMike · 16/07/2020 14:31

Miles

AnotherBiteMe · 16/07/2020 14:42

Love them both !

DramaAlpaca · 16/07/2020 14:44

I quite like Miles, but I really, really like Rory.

kerkyra · 16/07/2020 14:50

I have a Miles,he's 12.
The only other one I know of is a Myles, aged 15.

wishingitwasfriday · 16/07/2020 14:50

Years of watching Gilmore girls makes me think of Rory as a girls name (even though I know it isn't) and for that reason I'd go for Miles.

Grufallosfriends · 16/07/2020 18:04

Rory is a nickname for Aurora.

Aber9 · 16/07/2020 18:59

Love them both!

blondie87 · 16/07/2020 19:40

I think Miles is lovely and I have young children and have not come across more than one. I think it’s fab!

namesnames · 16/07/2020 20:02

I have a 19 year old Miles, he's fabulous. My Mum disliked his name when he was born and refused to say it out loud. He's her favourite grandson and she can't forgive herself for not loving his name when he was tiny.

We all laugh about it.

Love Rory too, sorry to be of no help whatsoever.

Lordamighty · 16/07/2020 20:04

I love the name Rory, Miles is also nice but Rory wins.

mediciempire · 16/07/2020 20:04

I really like Miles and Rory. Rory Miles sounds quite nice to me.
