What do you think about the name Sana?

I would pronounce it Sah-na or Saana (long “a” sound) .

In Arabic “Sana” means brilliance ( I am not Arabic but DH is) but Sana is also a name of a river back where I was born, so it pretty much covers both basis.

What do you think?
Thanks!

Never heard it before but it's lovely.

HermioneMakepeace · 16/07/2020 05:27

I have a friend called Sana. She is Iranian and lives in London. I think it's a really pretty name.

Emmmie · 16/07/2020 05:35

Thank you both! 🌷🌷

It's a nice name plus it has significance for both of you. Go for it.

chatwoo · 16/07/2020 05:57

I used to know a Sanna (extra N to your version - she was Finnish). Always thought it was a nice name.

Chickaletta16 · 16/07/2020 06:02

A truly beautiful name x

I oo have a friend called Sana, her name is shortened from Alessandra. I like that name, it's pretty & uncommon (but not too "out there") Smile

chubbyhotchoc · 16/07/2020 06:06

Wasn't there a character in GOT called Sana? It's pretty

Emmmie · 16/07/2020 06:11

Wow, I am so glad to be getting such positive feedback. Thank you all! “Chubbyhotchoc” the GOT character was called Sansa I believe.

I know a toddler Sanna (different spelling). It is a beautiful name!

Newlittle · 16/07/2020 06:16

It also means healthy in Spanish

Emmmie · 16/07/2020 06:22

Nice meanings in both Finnish and Spanish. In Finnish it is sort of a shortened Susanna version and it means “Lily”. And as Newlittle kindly advised it means “healthy” in Spanish.

Very happy with this😊

There's also a same sounding name in Dutch - spelled differently (Sanne).

I think it's a great name!

Emmmie · 16/07/2020 06:33

Howlat How would you pronounce “Sanne”?

pinkpinecone · 16/07/2020 07:12

Sana is really pretty and it's lovely that it has significance for both of you.

Hi

If you’re looking for an Arabic name that works in English try:

www.arabicenglishbabynames.com

It lists all Arabic names that work in English.

Sana is nice, I know a few.

keepingbees · 16/07/2020 07:29

I know a Sana, pronounced 'Sanna'. Lovely name.

Emmmie · 16/07/2020 07:43

pinkpinecone and keepingbees I am really pleased you like the name.

doubtingmustafa , thank you for the link. I had a look and was actually pleasantly surprised how many names work in both Arabic and English. There are a lot of pretty names to chose from.

Interestingly enough, the word “Dunya” which means “Earth” or “this world” in Arabic also means a “quince” in Bosnian and is a very popular girls’ name over there. Go figure. 😆

Reminds me of two lovely Sudanese friends I had at school when I was very little. Lovely name. I'd pronounce it with equal emphasis on both 'a's Similar to Anna.

My first thought was sanitary towel.

AsanteSana · 16/07/2020 10:18

It also means ' very much', in kiswahili as in Asantesana - 'thank you very much'!

Emmmie · 16/07/2020 10:34

user1493494961 Thank you for the feedback. It has been taken into account 🙂

AsanteSana , thank you, I like that 😊

I live any names ending in arna

Danniiaddy · 16/07/2020 13:27

Sorry but my first thought was it sounds like a laxative (Senna). Also backwards it’s Anas so it sounds like a bottom problem all around!
Seren is much prettier.

missmouse101 · 16/07/2020 13:34

I thought of a sanitary towel too. It's ok though.
