Bugger - I don't like any boys' names

I realise this sounds ridiculous, but I've realised that I don't actually like very many boys' names - and the ones I do like are either a bit too out there or DH has vetoed.

Can you please help me think of names along the lines of the following...

Zachary
Xander
Xavier
Orion
Leonard
Leonardo
Leo
Ray
Jesse
Galileo (dh actually laughed out loud at this one)
Rafe
Constantine
Artemis
Apollo
Archer
Sirius
Silas
Tobias
William
Arthur
Oscar
Sebastian
Rory
Dexter
Leander

I basically like names of Mythological Greek murderers, x-men, Victorian fops, or ninja turtles.

Theo is very very fashionable at the moment. It will soon sound dated imo!

sunflowersandtulips50 · 14/07/2020 16:31

interesting about Theo as it was more populare 20 yrs ago as my older DS had a friend or two with the name. Dont know any DC at the moment with the name..maybe its a regional thing

sweetnosugar · 14/07/2020 16:40

@sunflowersandtulips50
I think it must be regional, lots of mumsnetters go on about how popular it is. I actually really like the name. Don’t know any children with that name myself either.
I did however know someone younger in Uni with the name Theo, he’s however in his late 20’s/early 30’s now.

Keanu

Not really my taste to be honest, but I've plundered Shakespeare for you....

Gabriel
Rafael
Benedict
Lysander
Orlando
Antonio
Edmund
Romeo
Sebastian

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 14/07/2020 17:14

Missed off Orsino

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 14/07/2020 17:16

How about Roman?

lifesnotaspectatorsport · 14/07/2020 17:22

How about Leon as a variation on Leo/ Neo?

I also like unusual boys' names. Have you considered:
Alaric
Wulfric
Edwyn
Cadoc
Emrys
Ivan

flooredbored · 16/07/2020 14:47

Dorian
Atlas
Desmond

Whatsyourflava · 16/07/2020 15:01

Orion sounds too much like onion to me
What about Otis as an alternative

Whatsyourflava · 16/07/2020 15:04

@BatleyTownswomensGuild
Roman is the top fastest rising boys name. I'd avoid myself. To me it's as faddy and trendy as they come. Come from nowhere but risen 600 places in the past few years, will be top 20 by the time the next statistics come out. Depends if that's a problem or not Op

How about Tristan? Laurence?

SauvignonBlanketyBlank · 16/07/2020 15:05

Valentino

katy1213 · 16/07/2020 15:05

Do you really want the poor kid to be bullied in the playground? Just so you can feel different? I'd be sorely tempted to give Orion and Sirius a kick myself!

Iknewyouwerewaitingforme · 16/07/2020 15:29

I'm London- Theo very popular here.
OP like a lot of your names, here are boys names I love:

Laurence
Caspar
Rex
Conrad
Luca
Miller
Lewis
Dylan
Ethan
Fraser
Cameron

AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 16/07/2020 15:45

@katy1213 you sound like a wonderful person who I am sure breezes through life with many friends

@Iknewyouwerewaitingforme We're London too! A lot of the names on our slush list we've had to scrap because they've already been poached several times over by friends and family 😂

I don't mind repeating or stealing names - but it would be a little weird to name someone after a workmate or a friend that you shagged once. Like you're strongly hinting at the true parentage.

This thread has made me laugh a lot and I love 99% of the suggestions.

I think we've settled on the (slightly boring) William George now.

Was very nearly Leo, Theo or Tiger (how the fuck can dh like 'Tiger' but veto all those other normal names?!)

My fantasy boys name is Idris. I've loved it ever since Ivor the Engine. I have 2 sons, neither is called Idris...

topcat2014 · 16/07/2020 17:11

Nice to see Troy on the list

Solasum · 16/07/2020 17:16

How about Arion? Still mythological and similar to Orion

SilverOtter · 16/07/2020 17:23

We had the same issue with our second son. It took us ages (after he'd been born!) to decide. I don't like modern names either and wanted something a little bit unusual.

We went for Corin, and I still love it. Nobody seems to like it much on MN though. Whenever I mention it, it's like a virtual dust-bunny monent😂🤷🏻‍♀️

Wow. Just wow.

I’m embarrassed for you Blush
