Bugger - I don't like any boys' names

I realise this sounds ridiculous, but I've realised that I don't actually like very many boys' names - and the ones I do like are either a bit too out there or DH has vetoed.

Can you please help me think of names along the lines of the following...

Zachary
Xander
Xavier
Orion
Leonard
Leonardo
Leo
Ray
Jesse
Galileo (dh actually laughed out loud at this one)
Rafe
Constantine
Artemis
Apollo
Archer
Sirius
Silas
Tobias
William
Arthur
Oscar
Sebastian
Rory
Dexter
Leander

I basically like names of Mythological Greek murderers, x-men, Victorian fops, or ninja turtles.

Love your names. I also like
Quentin
Raphael
Conrad
Dominic

Thank you- I love all of these suggestions, but a lot of them have already been taken by family.

Half my family is very large, and very religious. So anything with a slight biblical or classical undertones has been taken. I know two people can have the same name but to me it's already 'them'.

My DH doesn't like any names at all, ever. I might just name the baby in secret and not tell him. Or see how long it takes before he asks.

Oh! And we can't use the name of anyone we've kissed. So, you'd be surprised by how many suggestions that's crossed off from the new suggestions because of me 😂

@shushymcshush He likes Arthur. That's it. But, when I was young child, I had synthesisia, and the name 'Arthur' is a cauliflower in my head.

I can taste it in my mouth when I say the name.

Not many names or words have those associations for me still, luckily. But the number 7 is yellow and tastes of beef.

Archie
Bertie
Stanley

AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 14/07/2020 00:38

According to DH...

Hector - sounds like tractor
Caspar- named after a ghost
Caspian - is that a cracker?
Tobin - toes in a bin
Gabriel - why would we name it after the receptionist at your work?

@millymolly23 I've actually suggested zebedee! Zeb for short. But was shot down so fast that I didn't dare include it on this list 😂

He said that it sounds like a speech impediment.

@enough4me I really like Albert - so Albie or Bertie. But was shot down.

Lizadork · 14/07/2020 00:44

Gideon
Gabriel
George
Logan
Charles
Julian
Magnus (like magneto Grin )
Gandalf
Elijah
Jasper
Oakley
Rufus
Reuben
Ewan
Luke
Harrison
Rupert
Clark

AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 14/07/2020 00:45

@sunflowersandtulips50 DH likes Theo. I like Leo. It's a strong contender.

Lizadork · 14/07/2020 00:49

How about Neo Smile

AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 14/07/2020 00:50

@anordinarymum About a third of those are in the current top 100 at the moment. That's my slush pile anyway- ones I like the sound of, phonetically, but can't use because of various reasons.

Didn't you post a thread yesterday saying that you've always hated your name? I think you're projecting here.

OP posts:
clary · 14/07/2020 00:50

Sounds to me like your DH is the one who doesn't like any names op! I like lots on your list and many are not that out there (William, Oscar, Leo, Rory).

Anyway. You DH likes Arthur, I see why you don't, but I like Arthur too - here are some others I like:
Stanley
Frederick
Alfred
Albert
George
Henry
Edwin
Edward
Eric
Cedric
Angus

Any help? What else does DH like?

Agree with pp tho, not Artemis, that's a girl (the goddess Diana)

ICantBelieveThisNameWasntTaken · 14/07/2020 00:51

I like Raphael Smile when I saw you included Rafe alongside some other classic names I thought I would suggest it. I see a PP has also suggested it, so consider this a vote for that!

AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 14/07/2020 00:52

@lizadork I have a cousin called Magnus! Jasper was on my list but has been used this week by someone close by.

I actually think DH would go for Neo 😂

@clary I actually realised that maybe the issue wasn't with me after I wrote down my rejects list.

I like George too, but apparently it's 'boring'.

So I need a name that's more exciting than George but less exciting than Zack. And is basically Arthur, as that's the one name he likes.

AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 14/07/2020 00:58

@icantbelievethisnsmewasnttaken I tried Raphael but was told it was a Turtle name. Ralph has also been rejected.

Oh dear! You should definitely veto DH's name and ask him to change it Grin

ICantBelieveThisNameWasntTaken · 14/07/2020 01:09

Alternatively, think of a ridiculous name that you would never want DS called in a million years, like Garbagio, and emotionally tell DH that you must have that name, you simply must. He'll be horrified, then he will bargain with you and offer up one of your other name choices insteadGrin

ICantBelieveThisNameWasntTaken · 14/07/2020 01:11

@ICantBelieveThisNameWasntTaken

By this I meant get DH to change his own name, not his choice of baby name! That would be silly 😝
AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 14/07/2020 01:15

@ICantBelieveThisNameWasntTaken he genuinely thought that what I was doing anyway with some of my suggestions 😂

Thing is, he LOVES every girl name I suggested. He's even suggested that we still use one (good luck explaining to your 6'4 son why he's called Ruby instead of Seb in 20years time).

He actually wants/likes Orion but I'm uneasy about naming a child after a mythological rapist.

OP posts:
ICantBelieveThisNameWasntTaken · 14/07/2020 01:23

Hmm... perhaps Ryan might be a good middle ground there! Or perhaps you've already had that one vetoed as well Blush

Are you planning on having more children after this one? DP and I chose a celestial theme for DCs names (one of them is actually on your original list!). We have an understanding that if we go on to have more, future DCs will have celestial themed names too. Nothing corny though, you'd hardly notice the link if it wasn't explained.

All that rambling was to suggest talking to DH about a theme Smile perhaps look at constellations, if you like a boy's name from that realm then it would make a lovely theme should you go on to have more DC.

Mopani · 14/07/2020 01:26

What about Orin? Or Oran- not sure of the spelling but heard it the other day and liked it!

ChavvySexPond · 14/07/2020 01:32

I'm calling my next cat Babatunde because I like saying it, if that helps.

Have we had Evander? Kirin? Fintan? Conall?

Amos? Demetrius? Immanuel? Malachi? Nicodemus? Reuben, Solomon, Mordecai, Obadiah?

Say you're going to call the baby Vulcan Ragnarok unless your partner comes up with something workable instead of rubbishing you're ideas

AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 14/07/2020 01:37

I asked my two-year-old earlier what we should call the baby and she said Pasta.

So I've got a Plan B.
