Could I ask your thoughts on Jonah?

Or for names similar that aren't too popular or tooooo biblical.

I like most biblical names but you know the OTT biblical sounding ones I mean, I'm sure 😂

He's a bit of a moaner in the Bible but I guess he comes good in the end. He might get some jokes about fish but overall I think Jonah is a good name. Not sure how Biblical is too Biblical but some similar names could be

Amos
Malachi
Nathaniel
Joel
Eli
Asher
Seth
Ezra

Really like it.

Nanasueathome · 10/07/2020 16:55

One of my grandsons is Jonah
Absolutely love the name...and the child

Whoandawhatnow · 10/07/2020 16:57

@Quizeerascal yes those are the types I like.

Too biblical would be Obediah, Ephriam, Ishmael.. etc. Maybe too biblical isn't the right description, hope that gives a better idea

Jonah is nice.
Or

Asa
Elijah
Zaccheus

daisypond · 10/07/2020 17:00

Not for me. It’s one of the worst names. A Jonah is an actual word in the dictionary. It seems very odd to want to call your child jinx. Would you call your child Judas or Jezebel, both also names that are also nouns?

June628 · 10/07/2020 17:03

I like it !

DesmondTheMoonbear · 10/07/2020 17:06

I love it.

Quizeerascal · 10/07/2020 17:08

@daisypond Jonah is a much better Bible character than Judas, he has a wobble but he comes good in the endSmile. Jude could work though,

glisteninginkcap · 10/07/2020 17:15

Love it

FizzyGreenWater · 10/07/2020 17:17

I much prefer Jonas

Joolsin · 10/07/2020 17:18

I love it - would have considered it for my son but it rhymes with our surname in a ridiculous way!!

jamdonut · 10/07/2020 17:22

I know a Jonah and he's a lovely little lad .
His 3 older brothers all have Biblical names too. I think it's a really nice, unusual name.

mogtheexcellent · 10/07/2020 17:22

Quite popular in my DDs nursery. I do like it though and it makes a change from Noah which got very popular.

daisypond · 10/07/2020 17:49

@Quizeerascal
Yes, Jonah is a better character than Judas, but the fact that a Jonah is an actual dictionary word with a very negative meaning would put me off.

Alonelonelyloner · 10/07/2020 17:55

It's lovely. Or Ezra.

Whoandawhatnow · 10/07/2020 18:17

Ezra would be a bit too popular for us, as we already know quite a lot of them aged between 1-4

Destroyedpeople · 10/07/2020 18:19

I have no idea why this name is popular

BeMorePacific · 10/07/2020 18:22

Jonah is a great name! I know 1 baby called it and no one else xx

florascotia2 · 10/07/2020 18:45

I like it. There is also Jonas...

Thistlegirl4 · 10/07/2020 20:02

I really like Jonah. There aren't very many where I am but even so would still use it.

123Dancewithme · 10/07/2020 20:11

I prefer Jonas. How about Josiah?

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 10/07/2020 20:20

Reuben?

NameChange30 · 10/07/2020 20:29

I love it.

I'm a fan of biblical names in general.

Others I like:

Adam
Asa
Elijah (Eli)
Ethan
Isaac
Levi
Reuben
Saul
Tobias (Toby)
Zachary (Zach)

I met a little Zeke (for Ezekiel) at a baby group once but I think that would probably be what you mean by "too biblical"!

NEE1302 · 10/07/2020 20:30

Elijah
Joshua
Noah
Jacob
Isaac

Though to be honest, I like Jonah better than all of those...
