Middle name for Marshall

Does anyone have any suggestions for a middle name that works well with Marshall? It's definitely a name I'm very strongly considering for baby boy due early Decembet but have no middle name pairings. We aren't doing family names. Looking for something sophisticated, masculine yet maybe a bit soft if that makes sense. Suggestions I've liked have been Marshall Austin, Marshall Julian and Marshall Dane. Anything else coming to mind? Thank you in advance!

Marshall Bruce- isn't that Eminems real name? (the rapper) I think of Marshall as a surname. Could it be a middle name instead?

Buffyanne · 08/07/2020 04:27

Yeah I think it is his middle name which doesn't suit him to me 😂 I only know that from researching the name a lot. I'm not an Eminem fan but I dont think hes going to be relevant in the next generation so I'm not really worried about it plus he obviously goes by Eminem so I dont think its that big of a deal. It hasnt stopped his daughter's name Hailey from being used and I think he mentions her more in interviews and music than his own real first name!

Love these! Marshall Dane is really growing on me! I'm also American so maybe Marshall isnt popular in the UK. It's not popular here either which is why I'm drawn to it I guess. It's not unusual but not popular so I like that!

I'm not familiar with Paw Patrol but that's a good thing to note!

Marshall is a character in paw patrol, which is INCREDIBLY popular among children. I think all the children I know between ages 2 and 10 would react to hearing Marshall by thinking of the character and maybe making comments about it.

Just something to be aware of.

MaryBoBary · 08/07/2020 07:07

Marshall Blake?

Literaryseed · 08/07/2020 07:10

Just echoing what others have said about Paw Patrol OP. It's easily the most popular thing for kids ages 2+ and Marshall is one of the top two pups. You might end up regretting it. It's all any parent /child will think when they hear the name. Just worth being aware of.

Marshall Aslan
Marshall Blair

By the way, I'm American (I've lived here in the UK for 20 + years though). My youngest is 6. Paw Patrol is huge over here.
And yet, Paw Patrol didn't even come to mind for a nanosecond when I saw the name Marshall.
It's a silly repsonse from people. I wouldn't worry about Paw Patrol for a second, OP! My eldest is 18 and survived on a diet heavy in carbs and Thomas the Tank. Grin Does anyone watch Thomas the Tank nowadays? Nope. When I meet a Thomas or a Percy or a George, do I automatically think of Thomas? No.
Paw Patrol won't alway be on a roll. Wink It won't be the show of the moment in a handful of years from now, so I wouldn't even worry a hoot about the name. I went to school with a Marshall. It's a lovely and unusual name! Congratulations.

I agree. It's not a terrible association, but it will be constantly mentioned, and will most likely the first thought many people have when they hear the name.
MrsCollinssettled · 08/07/2020 07:39

My first thought was Marshall in "How I met your mother"

Aria20 · 08/07/2020 07:41

I thought paw patrol too but I still don't think it's a bad association, there are children called chase and Skye too which are also characters from there.

One thing to think about is the initial of your surname, any vowel middle name could make for some words depending on your surname.... eg MAD, MAN, MEN, MUD, etc

Onestepup · 08/07/2020 09:04

Marshall Ray
Marshall Henry
Marshall Idris
Marshall Vincent
Marshall Peter

KingofDinobots · 08/07/2020 10:41

Yes people do still watch Thomas the tank engine - and my 5 year old has a Percy in his class and regularly comments that he’s Percy like the train.

I’m assuming OP is in the UK? Marshall is a very unusual first name here, so more likely that people will think of Marshall the dog, or Marshall from how I met your mother.

Art

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 08/07/2020 10:57

Marshall Dillon

TheMandalorian · 08/07/2020 11:16

I like the name. I wouldn't worry about the paw patrol link. Marshall is a well beloved character. Why would that be a bad thing?
It's not like horrid Henry for instance, where anyone called Henry will be called horrid. Like my 1yo cousin was by a strange woman in a lift once!?
I think a one syllable name would go nicely with Marshall.
Luke
Drew
Blake
Scott
Jake

Buffyanne · 08/07/2020 14:26

Yeah I looked up Paw Patrol and a lot of names are used: Chase, Skye, Ryder, Everest, Zuma (name of Gwen Stefani's son). Ryder, Chase and Everest are far more popular in the states than Marshall. And my main association with the name was How I Met Your Mother. When i was little Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was huge but kids thought those names were cool back then: Leo and Rafael and April particularly. So I'm glad to be aware of it but I dont think it's a huge deal. Like @TheVanguardSix mentioned Thomas the Tank, I grew up with a lot if Thomas/Tom's during the height of that and no one mentioned it. But again not s bad thing to be aware of, I'll watch the show and see how I feel about it!

I love Marshall Dillion and Marshall Dane so far!

I think it goes best with a classic middle name.
