What are your thoughts on Indiana / Indianna for a girl.

It's not my usual style at all, but I heard it in cbeebies The Baby Club and thought what a lovely name it is.

Thoughts?

Reminds me of Indiana Jones

LotusClover · 02/07/2020 10:45

Me too.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 02/07/2020 10:49

Too try hard and forced for every day use. Indie or India are much nicer

IndiaMay · 02/07/2020 10:51

I would think it was a boys name because of Indiana Jones but dont dislike it for a girl. I'd get used to it. I like Indie for a girl too which it would get shortened to

BeMorePacific · 02/07/2020 11:08

I know an Indiana, and have never thought about Indiana Jones (I don’t know how I didn’t 😂🙈)
I like Indie as a NN x

babynamelover · 02/07/2020 11:11

I really don't like Indie on its own. Indiana is okay I think I like Indigo the best out of the Indi names I want to like India.

JingleCatJingle · 02/07/2020 11:12

‘We named the dog Indiana’

As well as the Indiana Jones link (and his given name was Henry Jones: Indiana was a nickname), the name of the state of Indiana records a tragic history of conquest, violence and dispossession. Indigenous peoples - misnamed 'Indians' by European settlers - had lived in the territory for thousands of years, but were driven out, sometimes at gunpoint. See, for example, www.biography.com/political-figure/tecumseh

daisypond · 02/07/2020 15:35

No. And neither India, or Indie, or Indi.

PixieB26 · 05/07/2020 16:28

It as my favourite name for years and I will love it! Who cares if it’s a state or a characters name! There’s a gazillion names out there you could say the same for. It’s pretty and has the option to be shortened to India, India or Ana

PixieB26 · 05/07/2020 16:30

Obviously I typed too fast in my message above!! Typo central!
Meant to say ‘India, Indi or Ana’. Diana is also an option

Roselilly36 · 05/07/2020 16:38

Not sure on Indiana, def not if your surname is Jones! I know a couple of gorgeous dogs with that name. I really like the name Inbee for a girl, there is a pro golfer with that name, not sure why I like it, but I do.

mondaywine · 05/07/2020 16:44

It’s my cat’s name...

Flappingflamingo · 05/07/2020 17:29

Not for me sorry and really don't like any of the nicknames either

pipnchops · 05/07/2020 17:32

I think it's lovely name for a girl and I love the nickname Indi.

Crunchymum · 05/07/2020 18:28

Was on the list for DC2 (girl) but I was the only person who liked it.

Still love it but went for something totally different for both my DD's.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 05/07/2020 18:39

The only thing I'd be able to think of would be "we named the dog Indiana". Sorry op!

EmmaC78 · 05/07/2020 18:42

I really dislike it - both the long and nn versions.

donquixotedelamancha · 05/07/2020 18:53

Why not name her after a UK region rather than a US one. How about Wales or Tyneside?

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 05/07/2020 19:41

In fairness, I do actually really like Devon as a child's name.

Afolnerd · 05/07/2020 19:52

I have an Indiana!
Obviously we love it, she is Indy for short.
We don’t care about the Indiana Jones reference as dh is a massive Harrison Ford fan.
I have only met one other and that was a boy but I think it is a more feminine name.
My Mum pulled a bit of a face when we told her, but we couldn’t care less what anyone else thinks as we love it and so does dd.

ShyTown · 05/07/2020 20:05

Sorry but I don’t like it but that’s mostly because I live pretty close to the state. The only reason I could think of to go there are because fireworks are legal or because you have to drive through it to get somewhere better. Also the state’s name is associated with the persecution of native Americans. As an alternative I don’t overly mind India but the nickname Indy makes me think of Indy 500 which is car racing in Indianapolis.
Maybe it works better in the UK though?

Whatsyourflava · 05/07/2020 20:28

I love it. Know a boy with this name

AdultFishcakes · 05/07/2020 20:29

I’m biased as I know an Indianna and she’s cool as anything.
