What are your thoughts on Indiana / Indianna for a girl.

It's not my usual style at all, but I heard it in cbeebies The Baby Club and thought what a lovely name it is.

Thoughts?

No. Not unless you have some tangible connection to the US state of Indianna. You might as well be called Hemel Hempstead or Slough.

Edenember · 05/07/2020 22:39

@17caterpillars1mouse I’ve always loved this name and it’s shortened form Indie and I can’t really explain why as it’s very different to my usual taste. Just think it sounds beautiful.

Ellmau · 06/07/2020 21:36

A bit too American.

Carouselfish · 08/07/2020 23:38

Love it and know a boy with it.

Destroyedpeople · 08/07/2020 23:41

You would end up with 'Indie' which is one of those really try hard late 90s names....prob short for 'Indigo' and with a brother called Zak.

june2007 · 08/07/2020 23:46

Indiana was the name of the dog. But seriously I like it for a boy, no reason why you called use it for a girl,

AgeLikeWine · 08/07/2020 23:47

Having been to Indiana, it’s a no from me. The place isn’t exactly the most beautiful or inspiring part of the United States.

chipsandgin · 08/07/2020 23:50

Sweet, but no need for the double n - just looks misspelt & would lead to a lifetime of saying ‘with two n’s’..

floralf · 08/07/2020 23:59

I really like Indiana (1 n) I have a friend with a dd named Indiana and she is called Indie day-to-day. She's so cute!

Charlieandthechocolatecake · 09/07/2020 00:12

Not a fan of Indiana but Indie is beautiful

Brakebackcyclebot · 09/07/2020 00:23

My dog really is called Indiana.

bluemoon2468 · 09/07/2020 09:56

People are being really weird about it being a place name 😕 Georgia is also the name of a state, and that's a very common girl's name I doubt most people would think twice about. There are loads of common place names (without giving it much thought Rio, Chelsea, Orlando, Florence, Jordan, Paris, Iona all spring to mind). Naming your baby Indiana clearly isn't the same as naming her Slough. People can be so obtuse 🙄

MikeUniformMike · 09/07/2020 14:16

Awful. India is ok and Diana is lovely, but Indiana makes me think of Harrison Ford.

SionnachRua · 09/07/2020 16:04

Dreadful. Can't stand Indie either, so twee and infantile. Diana is lovely though and India is ok.

IsMiseMorag · 09/07/2020 16:07

When you see it written down, Durham isn't a bad name.

HPLikecraft · 09/07/2020 17:51

Terrible and sounds a bit try hard. Sorry.

VenusClapTrap · 09/07/2020 21:00

It’s a definite no from me, for the same reasons as florascotia2. Really bad associations - I would not want to grow up with that millstone.

MikeUniformMike · 09/07/2020 21:56

How about Massachusetts or Texas?

zingally · 10/07/2020 12:27

A social media acquaintance named her daughter Indianna. I thought then, and still think, that it's not a very nice name.

I don't know... To me it just sits the pile of names that are slightly chavvy try-hards, where parents are thinking about the cute toddler, but not the woman in her 40s.

DappledThings · 10/07/2020 18:22

I'd assume you were a big fan of Parks and Recreation.

sidsgranny · 10/07/2020 18:27

I know a lovely Indiana. He's a golden labrador....

Indiana, India, Indie - all sound like you're trying to hard to be "out there"
