George, Henry or Jacob

Love the classic names and narrowed down to these 3. Any thoughts? Like Henry but bit worried it’s too posh? Like Jacob but not the nn Jake. Ahh very confusing!

Love all 3

George very popular so I’d go Henry or Jacob.

whatausername · 30/06/2020 00:02

Henry if using the full name.

George is a bit plain because it's so used. Jacob is nice enough but I dislike Jake. Also Jakey or Jake is unpleasant slang in some places for an alcoholic or homeless person.

joannew4 · 30/06/2020 05:04

I love classic names too. I personally love George but there already is a George in our family dammit! I agree with the above that Jacob is a lovely name but I don't like Jake. Imagine it called out with your surname in your most hated accent, that ruled out a few of our favourite names when we were deciding

worstwitch18 · 30/06/2020 05:28

All three are great, you can't go wrong with them. Personally I like Henry and George a little more than Jacob but only by a slight margin.

Maybe think about nicknames as well. If you really like or dislike a common nickname for your chosen name it might sway your decision:

George will probably be Georgie
Henry will be Harry (maybe Hal, Haz or Hank but probably Harry)
Jacob will be Jake or Jakie/Jakey

Lavenderbluesy · 30/06/2020 06:48

Henry will be Harry (maybe Hal, Haz or Hank)

Actually the most natural and obvious one is Hen!

daisypond · 30/06/2020 06:58

I prefer Henry by quite a lot. Jacob doesn’t fit with Henry and George. It’s a different style of name. John fits. That’s great. If that was on your list, that’d be top.

Angelonia · 30/06/2020 06:59

Jacob is my favourite, don't use it if you hate Jake though!

ImAncient · 30/06/2020 07:00

I’m Greek & lot of the Jacobs I know use Jack as the informal version.

I love all 3 names actually. No help there.

NatalieH2220 · 30/06/2020 07:04

Jacob

Todayisanewday75 · 30/06/2020 07:09

I’m biased but definitely Jacob. He wouldn’t necessarily become Jake though, mine isn’t.

Tootletum · 30/06/2020 07:10

Jacob

Aria20 · 30/06/2020 07:12

Henry is my favourite of the 3, then Jacob, then George is my least favourite as a first name.

Could you go Henry Jacob Surname or Henry George?

Lobsterquadrille2 · 30/06/2020 07:13

Jacob definitely. I know an adult Jacob who has never been Jake.

tanqueray10 · 30/06/2020 07:16

I have a Henry and a George so I’m biased! I don’t think Henry is too posh- we certainly aren’t posh!! Henry was my grandfather’s name and always wanted to use it for that reason. I only know one other boy called Henry but I know a few called Hugo- now that’s posh!!

Sootybear · 30/06/2020 07:21

I love all three names. My DS is a grown up Jacob and his friends have always called him Jacob as he didn't like Jake. His middle name is Henry and one of his best mates is George!

drumandthebass · 30/06/2020 07:23

We have a Henry and we are
certainly not posh. Apart from family occasionally calling him something silly like Henster or "H" he's never been called Harry or been given a nickname. We also have another whose middle name is George and I often wish we'd used George as his first name. I'm not a fan of Jacob at all

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 30/06/2020 07:32

Jacob. I really dislike George.

HayCaramba · 30/06/2020 07:47

Jacob! I have a little Jacob and he’s never been called Jake so far, hadn’t even crossed my mind. He’s Jacob or just J.

YourPhysiotherapist · 30/06/2020 07:48

I have a Jacob and he has never been called Jake

Theresomethingaboutdairy · 30/06/2020 08:13

I love these names but love Henry the most 😊

Rebelwithallthecause · 30/06/2020 08:16

I have a Henry

I’m not posh but some people say we are Wink

ChrisPriss · 30/06/2020 09:02

Jacob is good and strong

123Dancewithme · 30/06/2020 09:07

Jacob

LatteLover12 · 30/06/2020 09:15

I'm having the same issue OP!

We're trying to decide between George, Henry or Charles (Charlie) we have Edward (Ted) as an outlier too...

We'll probably end up with a combination of two of these.

Sorry, no help just solidarity!

Whatsyourflava · 30/06/2020 10:19

All three are gorgeous and I find it really hard to pick. I think I'd pick either Jacob or George because so many names now end in a "y" sound. But I'm just being picky, I love all 3
