Absolutely fine
It's not like you've got actual siblings called Oliver and Olivia

Olivia is gorgeous

pinkyredrose · 26/06/2020 09:33

Call her what you prefer! What does it matter if other people have similar names?

Spied · 26/06/2020 09:33

I'd still use Olivia and I definitely prefer it to your other names.
I really like Olivia and other names I like ( I know you haven't askedGrin)
Alice
Heidi
Scarlett
Grace
Carla
Carmen

MikeUniformMike · 26/06/2020 11:32

It's too popular for me, but if you love it, use it.

I don't like Ava at all.

Thiswayorthatway · 26/06/2020 11:40

Yes of course, Olivia is a lovely name.

LotusClover · 26/06/2020 12:41

I think you should still use Olivia, it's lovely. I love Ava and Emily too.

Edenember · 26/06/2020 15:51

@Lumie123 if it was me in this situation I wouldn’t personally. People in fairly close relationships when there’s a million other options to choose from. However if you’re really, really struggling To agree on anything at all, that brings a different edge to the situation. I certainly wouldn’t condemn someone doing this.

Lumie123 · 26/06/2020 16:42

Yeh we've struggled to agree on names, Olivia, Ava and Emily are what we can agree on so far, however iv just found out my friend had a baby girl this morning and has called her Ava, typical! So now it's between Olivia and Emily unless we can agree on any other names but it's not looking likely X

I think your friend has done you a favour with Ava. It is so popular and will start to sound dated very soon. Emily is a classic I would choose that personally.
Olivia is fine but it has been the most popular girls name for ages now and it is a bit boring, especially if you have two Olivers in the family.
However, if it is your favourite name and you both love it, that wouldn't be reason enough not to use it IMO.

MikeUniformMike · 26/06/2020 17:10

What do you like about those names. The common element I see is that they are vowel heavy. The names are also very popular.

How about looking at names that are similar or very different.

If you like Olivia you might like Viola, and if you like Emily you might like Charlotte, Alice or Hannah. If you like Ava, you might like Ivy.

To go for something different you could look at names that are more consonant heavy. Cara, Christina, Rosa, Vivien, Rosali,. Margarita...

MikeUniformMike · 26/06/2020 17:10

Rosalie nor Rosali.

sweetnosugar · 26/06/2020 17:12

Olivia is lovely!

Smellbellina · 26/06/2020 17:14

Hate the name but I don’t think a few relatives with the name Oliver is a reason not to use it if you love it

MikeUniformMike · 26/06/2020 17:14

I can't type.

Lumie123 · 26/06/2020 17:26

@MikeUniformMike iv never really thought about why I like those names but i realise now that I'm drawn to vowel heavy names for some reason, and 3 or more syllables preferably as surname is 1 syllable, although that's not a must. It's not because they are popular, but that doesn't bother me either way. Thankyou for your suggestions.

MikeUniformMike · 26/06/2020 17:45

It was just a suggestion Lumie123. I have nothing against popular names. I tend to prefer consonant rich names, but that's not the current trend. If I had another DD I'd probably go for something like Ann or Jill. Smile

There's an app that finds similar names to ones you like. It might be worth a try.

Lumie123 · 26/06/2020 17:48

@MikeUniformMike that sounds fab, do you know what the app is called?

OP posts:
MikeUniformMike · 26/06/2020 17:56

I think it's Kinder. Someone will suggest a link.

This has some suggestions.

PintOfGin · 26/06/2020 17:58

I love the name Olivia however I wouldn't personally use it as it's so popular now (think it may be the number one girls name still?) Not keen on Emily.
But I think it's fine to use Olivia if you love it, I don't think it matters about the olivers etc in your family.

Sk1nnyB1tch · 26/06/2020 18:02

I think it depends on pronunciation, do your family say Oliver without the R, All-iv-eh?
If so Olivia is a bit close but could still use as she's not going to be living with her Uncle or cousin.
If it's Oliver, All-iv-er then O-liv-ee-aa doesn't actually sound that similar.
Vowel heavy name suggestions Orla, Leonora, Honoria.

Edenember · 26/06/2020 18:25

@Lumie123 you seem to like names which are quite classic and feminine in style and also vowel heavy as you say. How about Amelie, Hannah (I’ve always loved this name and it’s not overused now), Eloise, Imogen, Elise, Ariana, Eliza, Mariann(a/e), Anna, Ada, Aurora, Aurelia, Ophelia, Francesca, Harriet, Eleanor(a), Isotta, Louisa, Lucinda, Ottili(a/e), Romilly, Clara, Annabel, Arabella, Isobel, Annalise, Mariett(a/e), Graciela, Arrietty, Annabeth, Elizabeth, Seraphina, Lilia(na), Rosali(a/e), Rosina, Clarissa, Claudia, Cora, Orla, Flora, Cecily, Isla, Iona.

emilybrontescorsett · 26/06/2020 19:07

I would go for Olivia if you like the name.

HalloumiSalad · 26/06/2020 19:12

I wouldn't, my sister and I both have a DD whose names starts with C and my mum gets muddled enough ( let's just say it's not going to get any easier for her)... No way would she cope with having two grandchildren whose names differ almost solely on the emphasis of which syllable! 😱

Incacat2 · 26/06/2020 19:18

Olivia is a beautiful name. We have one, however, she's always Livvy, or Liv, so be prepared for people to shorten it. Very rarely will she be called by her full name.

BarbeDwyer · 26/06/2020 19:49

If the Olivers are Ollie and Olivia will be Liv, then there's no problem really. I think Liv is cool.
