Alternative to Adelaide

I love the name Adelaide but my husband doesn't - it's too closely linked to the place for him.

We both like Adeline... but I can't get over the fact that it sounds like "add a line". Am I being silly?

Any ideas on alternatives to these?

Adelynne. So you ditch the line sound. I had a friend called Adelynne. The end was lin sound rather than line

LotusClover · 21/06/2020 20:26

Madeleine (spelt this way and pronounced mad-uh-lin).

Love the name Madeline but we can't have it. A close family member used for her daughter. Anything else similar to that? Madeline Adeline sounds.

Also I like Adelynne but is it a "real" name?

We’ve got an Adeline and we often get comments about how nice a name it is. We’ve not met another one yet.

Evangeline?

Bumbl · 21/06/2020 20:40

Evelyn? Or names close to that

dancingmama · 21/06/2020 20:42

@DontAskIDontKnow it is a gorgeous name. How do you pronounce it?

Just had a thought - what do you think of Adelina?

OP posts:
daisypond · 21/06/2020 20:51

It’s OK, yes. A bit frilly for my tastes but I like the hard consonants in it to give it some edge. There was a famous Italian opera singer named that. Ad-e-leena.

StrangerSwings · 21/06/2020 20:56

Yes it's a real name though the spelling I'm aware of (teacher) is Adelyn. Ad-el-inn

Lydia

Adeline or Adelyn are both pretty.
Evangeline

@dancingmama we pronounce it ad - e - line. We’ve been really pleased with the reaction to it, as it is quite unusual.
