I'm starting the fall in love with the name Phoebe.
It came to me in a dream and ever since then I keep thinking that it might just be the perfect name.

However..... I'm a little bit concerned regarding miss-spelling of the name. Is it one of those names nobody will ever be able to spell? Always receiving cards with name spelt wrong?

The other options we have are Chloe (but may not be able to use), Poppy and Martha.

Thank you.

Yes, Phoebe may well get misspelled as Pheobe or Pheebe. Martha is unlikely to be misspelled!

123Dancewithme · 21/06/2020 11:35

It just makes me think “feeble”. Martha is much much nicer!

Pippilangstrumpfi · 21/06/2020 11:36

Poppy is also easy to spell!

ShadowMane · 21/06/2020 11:37

does it matter though? if someone is important, then they will make the effort

KipperTheFrog · 21/06/2020 11:39

In my experience, even easy names get misspelled. Don’t let that put you off. Love the name Phoebe.

Marlena1 · 21/06/2020 11:40

I think it's lovely. It is a name you ahve to think about to spell but a lot of names are, that wouldn't put me off. Also love Chloe.

daisypond · 21/06/2020 11:47

Phoebe is a lovely name. It’s well known, and I’d assume the majority of people know how to spell it. I like Chloe and Poppy too. I’m less keen on Martha - seems dreary to me.

Sparticuscaticus · 21/06/2020 11:48

Don't worry about mispronunciations, most people can spell Phoebe. My Middle DD's name is constantly misspelled despite it being easy to spell and we couldn't have predicted that, but its not like it's Niamh or Saroise one of the really hard names to spell (Which are also beautiful names)

If you love the name, please use it! You'll regret it otherwise

Whatsyourflava · 21/06/2020 12:08

Phoebe is perfect
Also love Martha and Chloe though

StCharlotte · 21/06/2020 12:09

My sister is called Phoebe. She hates it. As a child I offered to swap because I adore it. But apparently it doesn't work like that.

It did take me years to learn to spell it but once my mum told me to think of it as Pho-ebe, that helped Smile

tillytoodles1 · 21/06/2020 12:13

My cat is called Phoebe. She gets called beebs which I think a kid would get called too.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 21/06/2020 12:13

Phoebe is in the same category as Isaac for me and will be misspelt, I’m afraid. There is a small but persistent number of Pheobes (sic) registered every year, to confuse the matter further.

ReginaaPhalange · 21/06/2020 12:40

I love it. It's on my list of girls names (if we ever manage to conceive). DH not keen an reminds him of phoebe from friends lol.

Nickname could be feebs!

StCharlotte · 21/06/2020 13:24

Trouble is Pheobe (which is wrong) doesn't look at all wrong. Like People which doesn't help.

NameChange30 · 21/06/2020 13:32

I like the name Phoebe and spelling issues wouldn't bother me too much.

Then again my favourite girl's name for bump is Inès which is hardly easy for English speakers to pronounce or spell 🙈

namechangetiger · 21/06/2020 13:39

Name changed for obvious reasons. My name is Phoebe and I really like it. Get a lot of compliments on it when I introduce myself. It gets misspelled a lot but I don't really care.

namechangetiger · 21/06/2020 13:40

I know someone who has a Phoebe and used the spelling 'Pheobe' which always makes me laugh because it is wrong.

VintageGirl89 · 21/06/2020 14:07

@NameChange30 Ines looks beautiful. How do you pronounce?

OP posts:
NameChange30 · 21/06/2020 14:13

In-ess, sounds like finesse.
There are different pronunciations though. That's the French one. I believe the Spanish pronounce it differently.

SpringSpringTime · 21/06/2020 14:16

It’s lovely. I know a very elegant young woman by the name. And it’s really not difficult to spell. As someone else pointed out on here: some people would misspell Fred.

Pippilangstrumpfi · 21/06/2020 14:21

I've only ever heard Ines pronounced In ez.

NameChange30 · 21/06/2020 14:24

I have a whole thread on it if you want to debate it there Grin

OP sorry to derail yours slightly!

GeraltOfRivia · 21/06/2020 15:44

I have a Phoebe. It's rare we get a mis-spelling.

missmouse101 · 21/06/2020 18:35

I much prefer Hebe and Chloe. My daughter's friend is Phoebe and it's frequently spelt wrongly.

SoftBlocks · 21/06/2020 18:37

Much prefer Phoebe to Martha or Poppy.
