Alice

Hello, me and DH quite like the name Alice for upcoming DD - however we have one concern. Her older brother is called Alex/Alexander, and we was thinking that Alex and Alice might sound too similar, and could get confusing as brother and sister. Do people agree with me on this? Thanks Smile

I think Alice is a beautiful name. One thing I always think of is how many times you will say both names together in a sentence. Very very few, almost never really. So they don't have to 'go' together. I think they're fine as a pair, yes they're similar but it's not like you've got an Alex and an Alexa or a George and a Georgina. Congratulations!

Grufallosfriends · 20/06/2020 20:58

Alex and Alice are far too similar. Imagine calling them up the stairs or in a park!

ItsJustASimpleLine · 20/06/2020 21:01

We loved both they were our first choice names but when DS was born we decided they sounded too similar so had to choose a different boy name. We dont regret it as we love his name. If you love it then go for it but if there is an alternative maybe avoid the tongue twister

SionnachRua · 20/06/2020 21:01

Alex and Alice are far too similar.

rosegoldwatcher · 20/06/2020 21:01

Alice is an adorable name. (Reserve the full length Alexander for attracting his attention?)

Cabin · 20/06/2020 21:58

I think they're too similar, sorry. Would Alicia, Iris or Elspeth work? What other names do you like?

Aber9 · 20/06/2020 22:13

Too similar for me. I’d go insane.

DramaAlpaca · 20/06/2020 22:15

Too similar I think. Such a shame, Alice is gorgeous.

missmouse101 · 20/06/2020 22:19

I dislike the wet sounding Alice I'm afraid. It's so boring as well. Too similar to Alex, yes.

Pippilangstrumpfi · 20/06/2020 22:20

Alex and Alice are far too similar! Try saying them quickly together.

Smellbellina · 20/06/2020 22:21

I hear Alice my head says ‘Alice, who the fuck is Alice?’
Not even sure why, is it a song?

DerbyshireGirly · 20/06/2020 22:22

Alicksalis

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 20/06/2020 22:48

Alice and Alex are far too similar. Sorry. Is your DS young enough that he could start to go by Xander, or Sasha?

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 20/06/2020 23:06

Alice and Alex are too close, in the same sentence. Could you use Alexander more, if you're set on Alice (it IS lovely).

Is your Alexander small enough that you could switch to using Xander for him?

Or what about Alicia and Alex. Much less rhyming.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 20/06/2020 23:08

@Smellbellina

Yep. My brother was not impressed when people kept singing it to him when he named his DD Alice Wink
Dyra · 20/06/2020 23:12

@Smellbellina It is a song. By Smokie.

LOVE the name (have one of my own)! But I do feel the name is a little too similar to her brother.

Quite by chance I was mulling over names for a future sibling last night and had discarded Alexander (love that name too!) for just that reason.

A PP does have a good point though. If DS can go by any other nickname than Alex it could work.

Smellbellina · 20/06/2020 23:12

@TheFormerPorpentinaScamander
Just reminded myself of the song, it is a classic!

Another classic is Alice the Camel.

greensnail · 20/06/2020 23:15

Definitely too similar, we have cousins called Alice and Alex and that is bad enough when calling them or talking about them. Siblings would be much worse.

lankylemon · 20/06/2020 23:16

Way too similar. Maybe use it as a middle name?

NC4Now · 20/06/2020 23:19

Too similar, unfortunately. You could get away with it as a middle name perhaps.
When I say “Alex and Alice” I trip over it and end up saying “Alex and Alishh” like I’m drunk!

ellenpartridge · 20/06/2020 23:21

I love Alice but I do think they're too similar

Whatsyourflava · 20/06/2020 23:28

Alice is my favourite name ever. They're quite similar but it wouldn't bother me, I'd still use.

BirdyCheepCheep · 20/06/2020 23:40

Too similar. Will be a real pita in real life with children.

CaviarAndCigarettes · 20/06/2020 23:43

We have an Alice and it is a beautiful name

You can time save by calling "Ali" and they will both come?

To be fair we are on child three now so I only get her name right 33% of the time anyway

CaviarAndCigarettes · 20/06/2020 23:44

Also re the song. Our Alice is 5 now and we have only ever had it once.
