DH and I really struggling to agree on a girls name.

We both love Isadora and Liberty/Libby nn.

For me, Isadora edges it. For him, Libby.

Which one do you prefer??

Liberty is a lot nicer than Isadora. I love the idea of it but not entirely sure I'd want to be called Liberty...so on that basis I'd avoid it.

Isadora is dreadful. You've likely either got Izzy as a nickname (meh, overdone) or Dora (the explorer).

DramaAlpaca · 18/06/2020 23:29

I like Libby, but as an unusual diminutive of Elizabeth, not of Liberty. I really dislike Liberty as a name.

I don't mind Isadora, but it is a bit frilly.

sweetnosugar · 18/06/2020 23:46

Isadora

TippledPink · 18/06/2020 23:50

My friend's daughter is called Isadora- her husband is Albanian so I assumed it was linked to that background as I hadn't heard it before.

I like both Liberty and Isadora the same. Both unusual enough without being too out there.

CatteStreet · 19/06/2020 06:31

Isadora is lovely. How about Isolda as a more unusual alternative?

Not keen on Liberty. Libby's sweet but (as a PP said) as a diminutive of Elizabeth. If I met a Liberty I would, rightly or wrongly, assume wannabe-boho parents so convinced of their lifestyle they expect their child to be a walking advertisement for it throughout her life. That's always the danger with names that appear to represent a certain mindset (very obvious 'virtue' names such as Chastity and Prudence are another example at the other end of the spectrum).

babydisney · 19/06/2020 06:40

I typically cannot stand any issy names, but liberty is very 'common' so isadora is nicer, if you were doing any other variations of libby than that.

Cabin · 19/06/2020 08:31

Definitely Isadora. Not keen on Libby.

Immigrantsong · 19/06/2020 08:32

Isadora is beautiful. What about Isabella?

Hard no on liberty.

bluemoon2468 · 19/06/2020 15:26

Much prefer Isadora

hotstepper4 · 19/06/2020 16:35

Isadora!

LilacSloth · 19/06/2020 18:50

I love Libby, but as others have said I think it's better as a nickname for Elizabeth (not fond of Liberty). Really dislike Isadora.

Dancefloorgirl · 19/06/2020 19:16

Liberty all the way. It's a fab name!

Catra · 19/06/2020 19:23

Isadora by a long stretch.

Liberty = Flibberty, statues, bodices.

daisypond · 19/06/2020 19:36

Hm. Isadora is very frilly. I think it’s rather a hard one to pull off because it’s just so posh.
I like Liberty but probably would not use it.

EducatingArti · 19/06/2020 19:40

Isadora or Isolde as an alternative.

Lavenderblues · 19/06/2020 20:00

Isadora is beautiful and classy! Love it.

Don't like Liberty at all.

CaffiSaliMali · 19/06/2020 22:06

I also prefer Isadora to Liberty, although I do like Libby, but prefer Elizabeth for a full version.

Isolde or Iseult are good alternatives to Isadora. Ishbel is gorgeous too.

Spied · 19/06/2020 22:14

I'm not sure on either.

Slightly prefer Liberty but I don't think I'd want to be called it and I'm also thinking that people will assume she's Elizabeth if you nn her Libby.
I'd rather be an Isadora than a Liberty but I really dislike Dora.Confused

User1775836552 · 19/06/2020 22:23

Isadora definitely. Isn’t Liberty a brand of sanitary pad?

skilliganmcgilligan · 19/06/2020 23:35

I have a Liberty nn Libby - she is always complimented on her beautiful name and we still adore it x

worstwitch18 · 20/06/2020 01:10

I like the nickname Libby but not the name Liberty. Like others said, Libby short for Elizabeth is nice.

Liberty the name reminds me of the character Liberty Bell in the movie teen pregnancy movie Juno. I would put Liberty with names like Chrystal, Chardonnay, Macey etc.

Isadora would be my preference. I also like Isabel/Isabelle or Isabella.

toomuchteaandcake · 20/06/2020 12:14

Liberty

TheWashingMachine · 20/06/2020 12:30

I love both and at DD's school there is a Liberty nn Libby and an Isadora. You can't go wrong with either and I don't find either of them downmarket.

FizzyGreenWater · 21/06/2020 00:49

Oh god, Isadora 100%! It's classic, unusual, and you've got two great choices as nicknames- Dora or Sadie.

Liberty is so naff- it's up there with Chardonnay for me. Libby is ok - I personally dislike it, but it's also short for Elizabeth anyway.

FizzyGreenWater · 21/06/2020 00:50

Oh x-posts worstwitch.

Liberty really is pretty downmarket I'd say.
