Think about the shortened versions though. You may be able to stop Andrew being Andy but probably not, so go with a name where you don’t hate the short version.

Peachbubble · 15/06/2020 21:10

Henry
Andrew
Adam
Mark
William
Matthew
Alexander
Christopher
Ross
Luke

Whatsyourflava · 15/06/2020 21:12

Yeh Andrew will likely be Andy or Drew- great if you like those names but don't risk it if you done

ratethesenames · 15/06/2020 21:13

Yeah, I've been thinking about shortened versions. I'm not mad on Andy but I don't absolutely hate it. I do know another young Andrew and his name hasn't been shortened so far.

I don't particularly like Chris or Alex so they're issues. I hate Wullie which living in the west of Scotland could become an issue even said jokingly....

Its so hard. I used my favourite boys name on DS1 😂

Christopher
Alexander
Adam
Matthew
Andrew
William
Henry
Mark
Ross
Luke

DramaAlpaca · 15/06/2020 21:14

I'm not going to rate them (because I'm too lazy to copy and paste!) but will just say I think they are all good names and you really can't go wrong with any of them.

Matthew and Andrew are my joint favourites and Ross and Mark are my least favourite.

Whatsyourflava · 15/06/2020 21:15

Ross 10 - least favourite
Christopher 7
Alexander 5
Andrew 9
Matthew 6
Henry 2
Luke 1 - favourite (but all the top 5 are equally great)
Mark 8
William 4
Adam 3

ratethesenames · 15/06/2020 21:15

@DramaAlpaca you have to rate them, you'll mess up my spreadsheet if you don't Grin

OP posts:
EugeniaGrace · 15/06/2020 21:15

1 Luke
2 William
3 Matthew
4 Henry
5 Alexander
6 Andrew
7 Christopher
8 Adam
9 Mark
10 Ross

Whatsyourflava · 15/06/2020 21:15

I'd agree with PP that Ross and Mark are the weak links here. A lovely list!

Teacaketotty · 15/06/2020 21:19

Just to say OP if you go for Christopher he will highly likely be called Chris, I live in west Scotland too and know about 10!

minnie465 · 15/06/2020 21:24

Great list. I have a Matthew. What is your first son called?

ratethesenames · 15/06/2020 21:24

First son is James

OP posts:
ratethesenames · 15/06/2020 21:24

It looks so far that most people prefer the names I like which is good Grin

OP posts:
minnie465 · 15/06/2020 21:27

James was on my list for DS too.

1 Matthew
2 Christopher
3 Luke
4 Henry
5 William
6 Alexander
7 Adam
8 Mark
9 Andrew
10 Ross

emilybrontescorsett · 15/06/2020 21:28

Matthew
Christopher
Alexander
Andrew
Luke
Ross
William
Luke
Adam
Mark

ratethesenames · 15/06/2020 21:28

So the favourite 5 so far are;

Alexander
William
Adam
Luke
Matthew

That really has helped narrow it down at least.

OP posts:
Teacaketotty · 15/06/2020 21:29

James was on your list for a boy too, in that case Henry or Luke imo Grin

Tavannach · 15/06/2020 21:29

Alexander
Ross
Luke
Matthew
Andrew
Christopher
Mark
William
Adam
Henry (this is not a name I would choose in the west coast of Scotland. Harry's okay and I'd put it above Mark)

Zander as a nn for Alexander?
