We can't agree on any names, the list below is a mix of some my dh like and some I like.
Can you rate them 1 being your favourite and 10 least favourite?

Ross
Christopher
Alexander
Andrew
Matthew
Henry
Luke
Mark
William
Adam

I have an Adam James and a Luke William!
I like all your other names except Ross. Prefer Marcus to Mark.

ratethesenames · 16/06/2020 07:29

Could you let DS1 have the casting vote? We did (having whittled the names down to about five choices).

He wants to call him Thomas after the tank engine Grin

I also think DS’s suggestion of Thomas is a great one and goes well with James.
James and Tom.

ratethesenames · 16/06/2020 07:40

We can't use Thomas for a couple of reasons but it would be more likely to be Tam here rather than Tom.
So ds won't hear of any other name 😂

James and Adam, perfect.

Whiskas1Kittens · 16/06/2020 07:43

Just keep Matthew up your sleeve too then say it after labour. I always got my own way after labour lol!

I wish DH would back down on Matthew but he feels so strongly about it and I don't want his son to have a name he hates.
DS2 middle name will be my late dads name Smile

Adam is growing on me, it's not a name I'd thought of before (was DH suggestion). We've got time to mull it over.

We didn't struggle with naming ds1 at all.

If anyone here if having a girl. My favourite girls names are; Emma, Sarah & Rachel.

Op- is many were on you're not list?
If your dh vetoed 2 then surely you can veto 2 so would you then be left with 1?

emilybrontescorsett · 16/06/2020 08:57

Typos!
What I'm trying g to say is you should veto the same number as your dh.

ratethesenames · 16/06/2020 09:06

@emilybrontescorsett I vetoed quite a few from the original list. We were only vetoing ones we really disliked though rather than certain numbers iyswim?

I really like the shortened form Sasha from Alexander (but I also like Alec/Alex as well) - the list is very 1970s by the way - I think it basically names the boys I was at school with- so to be consistent you need Nicholas (which I really like and want to come back), Michael, Simon, Robert (I like but I guess become Rabbie in Scotland), and Richard

florascotia2 · 16/06/2020 09:50

Andrew and Andam are both good names.

If it helps, an old west of Scotland alternative to Andy was 'Andra' (presumably based on the Gaelic for Andrew, which is pronounced that way). The final 'a' is a very short sound, almost like 'uh' or 'eh'.

I have an Adam, so clearly that is a wonderful choice. Grin
Andrew too is lovely and uncommon amongst little ones (more uncommon than Adam). Maybe consider which works better with the middle name? Your whole list (assuming you return to the list of 10) is wonderful though and all would go well with James.

We have similar taste, a girl would have been Emma. Smile

Prettybluepigeons · 16/06/2020 11:17

I taught a little Andrew a while back and nobody shortened it. It is lovely.

I like Adam too.

I have a Matthew which I love but everybody at school, teachers included, call him Matt which bugs me.

bluemoon2468 · 16/06/2020 11:33
  1. Luke
  2. Henry (these are the only 2 I like)
  3. Matthew
  4. Alexander
  5. William
  6. Adam
  7. Ross
  8. Mark
  9. Christopher
10. Andrew

They're all alright names I guess, but does the world really need another Matt, Alex, Will or Chris? 😬

YourStarlessEyes · 16/06/2020 11:35

The only name on your list that I like is Henry

bluemoon2468 · 16/06/2020 11:37

If I were going to go with any of these I would at least try to use a less common nickname to give the child a bit of originality, like William nn Liam, Alexander nn Ali or Xander, Andrew nn Drew

Iwalkinmyclothing · 16/06/2020 11:40

From most to least favourite:

Alexander (by a country mile)
Luke
William
Christopher
Henry
Adam
Ross
Matthew
Mark
Andrew

Mark
