Also, do you know any Ellas?
What do you associate with the name?
What could Ella be a nickname for? I know it can be a stand alone name.
Thanks Cake

Gabriella, with nickname Ella.

LuxuryWoman2020 · 12/06/2020 20:26

It's gorgeous. Could be short for Gabriella which is also lovely

TheGriffle · 12/06/2020 20:27

I know an Ella (stand alone name) but she is a spoilt brat so it doesn’t have good connotations for me I’m afraid.

Whenwilllifebenormal · 12/06/2020 20:27

Ella and Ellie are very popular. I’ve taught maybe 15 in the last few years. It’s a standalone name in its own right then I’ve know it shortened from Gabriella and even Isabella.

BlusteryLake · 12/06/2020 20:29

Ella is very popular at the moment, I know about 6.

Cotswoldmama · 12/06/2020 20:29

I think of it as a stand alone name. I've always liked it. I know one Ella and she's lovely and very beautiful, so I associate the name with her.

LilaPad · 12/06/2020 20:32

Mhm not too keen on Gabriella, it's my bff mum's name.

Would it work for Elizabeth (my grandmothher's name)?

I have an Ella, she's 16. She's brilliant, I'm biased probably but she really is a cracking kid.
On here, every time the name Ella is mentioned lots of people say it's really popular..in the 16 years I've had my Ella I've only met one other and I work in a nursery so come across alot of children. Must be a regional thing, we're in the North East.

june2007 · 12/06/2020 20:38

I know an Ella I like the name, but that Umbrella song as kind of ruined it.

Kittymitty38 · 12/06/2020 20:40

I love this name but it is very popular if that matter to you? I know 3 in deferent ages.
Saying that my daughter is Ellie (which is also very popular) and she’s in Y2 and not a single other Ellie so far 🧐 xx

SionnachRua · 12/06/2020 20:42

I'm a primary teacher - I know loads of them! It's a bit of a wallpaper name to me (aka fine but blends in/bland).

I think you could get Ella/El out of Elizabeth, yes.

MissDollyMix · 12/06/2020 20:44

Absolutely love it. My favourite girls name tbh. I wanted to call DD Ella (7 years ago) but DH wasn’t keen. It’s incredibly popular with girls DD’s age though. We know a lot of Ella’s (that doesn’t put me off but I know it might put some off)

MissDollyMix · 12/06/2020 20:46

Should also say my DD ended up with a name very similar to Ella and gets called Bella a lot. There’s a lot of Bella’s out there too....

Newchapter2020 · 12/06/2020 20:56

We have an Ella (eleanor on birth cert) her nickname used to be Ella Bella Boo . Sometimes she's called Elles

Whatsyourflava · 12/06/2020 21:13

I absolutely love the name. Don't know any
Isabella could be Ella for a nickname

Whatsyourflava · 12/06/2020 21:13

Bella
Arabella

BabyLlamaZen · 12/06/2020 21:14

Cute. I think of Jaq Jossa's daughter.

IHaveBrilloHair · 12/06/2020 21:15

Ella= blah blah.

LilaPad · 12/06/2020 21:18

Isabella is nice. Elizabeth is more 'meaningful' to us, would nicknamin her ella based on Elizabeth be a bit try hard?

bellinique · 12/06/2020 21:19

Love the name. I've only ever met one Ella and she's wonderful, really bright, ambitious and kind. To me it sounds like quite a strong female name, as opposed to the softer names which end with an ie sound.

PaulinePetrovaPosey · 12/06/2020 21:47

It's bland and feels really forced from Elizabeth.

Elizabeth is a great name though.

Poppyfields21 · 12/06/2020 23:09

Could use Ele or Eli? Lily also a nickname for Elizabeth if you like that?

MsTSwift · 13/06/2020 07:22

Wallpaper name and extremely dull. Cannot believe out of all the lovely names available why anyone would choose a name as flat as this.

SnowdropFox · 13/06/2020 08:37

I agree its forced to get Ella from Elizabeth. If you like it so much, just use that. Or chose a different first name and use Elizabeth as a mn.

LilaPad · 13/06/2020 08:37

Thank you! I disagree that it's a wallpaper name but appreciate that it is popular. Elizabeth won't work for Ella, I can see that now.

Any ideas for names that have the same 'feel' as Ella?
