Love this name(possibly) for DS2 but opinions welcome!

It's a lovely name, but it has become a girl's name. Personally, I think it's too feminine for a male.

newmum332 · 08/06/2020 20:05

I know a little boy called Aubrey, he’s about 5 now and really suits his name. I don’t think it’s too feminine.

Herecomethedaffodils · 08/06/2020 20:10

Sorry but I just always read it as Audrey. It just sounds frumpy for a baby's name. But if you love it that's what matters, not some randomer like me 😊

Literaryseed · 08/06/2020 20:11

I know a boy Aubrey who's 3. It's not quite to my taste but not horrid either.

Chinesetakeawaay · 08/06/2020 20:11

It is traditionally a boys name but it's becoming increasingly popular for girls. In 2018 it was the 279th most popular name for girls in England and Wales v 749th for boys.

Whatsyourflava · 08/06/2020 20:23

Beautiful name- I love it and would definitely use it for a boy

DramaAlpaca · 08/06/2020 20:37

Well, it's a boys' name so no reason at all why not.

AgeLikeWine · 08/06/2020 20:41

“No, not Audrey. It’s Aubrey. A-U-B-R-E-Y, Aubrey. Yes, really....”

Repeat ad-infinitum for 80 years......

Blueuggboots · 08/06/2020 20:42

I know a man called Aubrey who is retirement age. I find it odd that it's used as a girl's name!
In the midlands, there is a butcher chain called Aubrey Allen too (male).

Blueuggboots · 08/06/2020 20:43

He was fondly known as strawbs or aubs.

Cattermole · 08/06/2020 20:47

My (male) cat is called Aubrey - after Jack Aubrey in Master and Commander - and he's also known as Strawbs or Awbs.
Aubrey Beardsley on the other hand, definitely a bloke.

MintyMurray17 · 08/06/2020 20:50

Love this name so, so much! To me it's a really handsome, warm and well-rounded boys name Smile

PuntoEBasta · 08/06/2020 21:00

I absolutely love Aubrey for a boy but I fear it has very nearly gone the way of Lindsay and Vivian.

AuntieStella · 08/06/2020 21:02

It's a boy's name, rather old fashioned but many people like old fashioned names

Orphlids · 08/06/2020 21:20

I really like it for a boy. I admit, I do think of it as being an older gent’s name, but actually, it would be adorable on a little boy. I find it a bit annoying it is being claimed as a girls’ name! When I think of an Aubrey, I imagine an academic type. An Oxford professor. Gentle. Nice.

daisypond · 08/06/2020 21:20

I like it. It’s a boys’ name.

Snooks1971 · 08/06/2020 21:31

I think it’s a great name for a boy. Not overdone, not pretentious, not too ‘out there’.

Waferbiscuit · 08/06/2020 21:41

It's the singer Drake's real first name. I think it's quite elegant

DappledThings · 08/06/2020 21:47

Like it. I find it very weird that it's used as a girl's name.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 08/06/2020 21:55

I love this name for a boy. It is a boy’s name. Sadly we won’t use it as I think the Americans have stolen it and a lot of people now regard it as a girl’s name (along with Quinn!). It’s up to you whether you’re “brave” enough.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 08/06/2020 21:56

Also, this thread has been fairly positive, but if you do searches of previous threads, a lot of people said they thought it was a girls name.

Puppilangstrumpfi · 08/06/2020 21:58

Aubrey is a great name for a boy! Strong and classic.

louise5754 · 08/06/2020 22:05

I know three Aubreys all girls though. I had never heard of it so didn't know it was a boys name.

MrMeSeeks · 08/06/2020 22:07

I automatically think girl. Too feminine for me sorry.

Sameold2020 · 08/06/2020 22:10

Makes me think of only fools and horses.
