A boy's name that fits these rules

None of our shortlist feels quite right. Can you suggest a boy's name that matches these criteria?

  • It's not an outlandish name, but you can count the number of people you know of with that name on the fingers of one hand.
  • Ideally two syllables.
  • Can't end in an -ee sound (as it would rhyme with his surname).
  • Straightforward to spell (mine isn't and it's irritating).
  • Ideally isn't also a surname (as his surname could also be a first name - could be an admin hassle).
  • Sounds strong but also friendly (obviously this is subjective).

I was convinced it was going to be a girl called Thora. Had no idea it would be so hard to find a boy's name that ticks all the same boxes.

I wouldn't get too hung up on the unusualness tbh. I am named a hugely popular 70's name. There were 4 of us in my class. Dd2 is named a name outside the top 100, a name I had never met anyone with.

There are only 5 girls in her year group (small school) dd2 is one of 2 with her name!

Thorn Egon Griffin Malin Rock
Thorn is interesting. I've never heard that before. Do you know anyone called that? Or is there a fictional character I should have heard of?

I've known 2 adult Thorns in my life, both in their 50s now, though one is sadly no longer with us. Both are/were very cool & genuinely lovely guys. Both English decent too.

You seem to be drawn to names beginning with T, so how about:

Tristan
Tobias
Thaddeus
Trey
Thomas
Torin
Tate
Teo
Thackeray

AdalbertWaffling · 07/06/2020 16:51

Sorry ignore Tristan from the list, just seen that's been vetoed!

LunanMoon · 07/06/2020 18:36

Has Troy been suggested? Or Thornton? Or Torrance?

Can't think of anymore?

It seems you quite like Danish/Scandi names (Torben, Torsten, Carsten, Thora etc.) so I could suggest a few I personally love (am Danish).
