A boy's name that fits these rules

None of our shortlist feels quite right. Can you suggest a boy's name that matches these criteria?

  • It's not an outlandish name, but you can count the number of people you know of with that name on the fingers of one hand.
  • Ideally two syllables.
  • Can't end in an -ee sound (as it would rhyme with his surname).
  • Straightforward to spell (mine isn't and it's irritating).
  • Ideally isn't also a surname (as his surname could also be a first name - could be an admin hassle).
  • Sounds strong but also friendly (obviously this is subjective).

I was convinced it was going to be a girl called Thora. Had no idea it would be so hard to find a boy's name that ticks all the same boxes.

Wow, what a lot of responses, thanks. Some of the ones that have come up a lot are the names of ex-boyfriends, friends, my dad, which rule them out... Others which I like (Rufus, Axel, Felix etc) DH has already vetoed. Arthur is a lovely name but is the number 1 most popular name in our region.

I can't hear "Eric" without thinking of my grandparents' rotund neighbour who used to try to give my Grandma inappropriately intimate hugs.

Jonah is one to think about.

Keep them coming. Nice ideas. Thanks!

I have a Leo and I’ve only met 2 others in his 6 years.
His middle name is Ellis which I also love and haven’t met one before
