Variation of Lily?

So we love the name Lily and even though it's getting quite popular we still really like it. Yesterday going through nameberry for inspiration this name came up on a completely unrelated thread to the name Lily.

Lilium

What do you think? Is it a realistic alternative? I do like the -um bit quite a lot even though I can't explain why

Thanks xxx

Lilette makes me think of Lil-lets tampons

MikeUniformMike · 06/06/2020 13:37

It is made up. I can think of real life examples of similarly made up names (word+wen), but it would out them. Chances are there are one or two Lilwens and no Liliwen. If you speak Welsh, you will see and hear why it doesn't work.

I made up Lilette, aware that it sounded like a product, but there is someone who has that as their name.

I could say Lilette is a French name, but it isn't. Lisette is and is pretty.
Lis is lily.

@MikeUniformMike

Just google it it's on almost all of the baby name sites, and It's 2000 and something on the ONS for 2017.

@MikeUniformMike

Mae Lilwen yn enw, gallwch chi gwneud enwau lan. Bydd e’n well os fydd hyphen yn y enw? Mae blodyn (lily) wen yn enw bert felly does dim ots.

Lilla had a vogue in the thirties

@3LittleMonkeyz, @footprintsintheslow,
look at that image. It lists Llian as a name.

Llian is Towel.

It also has Aberfa - great, Berfa is Wheelbarrow,
Aelwyd - Hearth
Amser - Time
Anwyn - Starvation
Arthes - She-bear
Berth - Shrub, Bush
Bregus - Fragile, Frail
Bron - Breast

I'm only on B, and if you can't see that there is something wrong with that list, then I hope your children are delighted with their names.

I think I'd rather not be called Breast or Bush.

Liliana is nice

footprintsintheslow · 07/06/2020 18:54

@MikeUniformMike communicating with you is like dealing with a flat earth believer. Exhausting and pointless.

MikeUniformMike · 07/06/2020 19:30

Which part of " there is something wrong with that list" are you struggling with?

The list you quoted from has entries that are awful.

If being a "flat earth believer" stops someone being called something apalling then surely that is no bad thing.

Someone might look at a list like that one, pick a name because it looks pretty, and the meaning it gives perfectly nice. Poor child would end up being named Slug.

Argue if you like, but it is on there.
