Boys name Torin

Luckyme30 · 19/05/2020 07:36

Me and my partner are really struggling for boys names. I have literally scoured the internet and the only name I am really keen on in Torin.

What does everyone think?

We don’t want a traditional name that is certain, I had lots of girls names I liked but can’t seem to find any boys names that I like the sound of.

Nice. We have a friend called Torin and I've always liked it.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 19/05/2020 07:40

Really like it. Tor is such a cool short name too.

cushioncovers · 19/05/2020 07:44

Love it.

IckleBear · 19/05/2020 09:10

I like the modern version Toren, so nn Tor or Ren.. And I think it looks nicer than Torin.

TheThingWithFeathers · 19/05/2020 09:16

I've never heard it before but I really like it.

Luckyme30 · 19/05/2020 09:29

Looks like it’s got a good vibe so far :) I quite like the sound of Toren too :)

How are you pronouncing it?

Tor to rhyme with floor/bore/door or to more like Lauren with a T?

I only ask because I know a Tauren and I’m wondering if you’re pronouncing it differently?

I like it either way!

Luckyme30 · 19/05/2020 09:59

I would pronounce it rhyming with floor, not sure if that’s the correct way to pronounce it though Grin

The opinion of a random on the internet really shouldn't matter and you should name your baby a name you love... but you did ask! I don't like it - it sounds like a chemical (ricin came to my mind)

babynamelover · 19/05/2020 10:08

I like it. I think there's a tv presenter here in NZ Corin but Torin/Toren is much cooler.

Prisonbreak · 19/05/2020 10:14

Makes me think of taurine (bulls semen)

StayAlert · 19/05/2020 10:16

Lovely name, very cool and unusual without sounding made up.

I know one and he pronounces it tor-rin

SporadicNamechange · 19/05/2020 10:25

I really like Torin. DH and I had been considering Tobin, but we both dislike Toby (and that feels unavoidable as a nickname). Torin is a similar without that risk.

Lynda07 · 19/05/2020 10:29

Very nice. I know someone whose 'maiden' surname was Torin and her grandson was named Torin in her honour. It sounds quite classy and it isn't unusual to use a surname as a forename (more so in America than here). Go for it!

I'm not familiar with Tobin but Tobias is good, Toby for short.

LotusClover · 19/05/2020 10:32

Don't like it at all. Sounds quite pretentious and makes me think of Torys.

RenegadeMrs · 19/05/2020 10:35

I like it! Unusual but not crazy.

theseriousmoonlight · 19/05/2020 10:36

I like it. For something similar, Torben is on my list. It means Thor's bear.

PaulinePetrovaPosey · 19/05/2020 10:36

Love it! A bit Scandi cool

zhivagodr · 19/05/2020 10:37

Love it. V scandi

MintyCedric · 19/05/2020 10:42

My mind went straight to Thorin (Oakenshield, dwarf king in the Hobbit).

I like it though.

Luckyme30 · 19/05/2020 11:06

@BabyMoonPie I know other people’s opinions shouldn’t matter but sometimes it’s nice to get an idea of how it sounds/comes across to others :)

Thanks all for feedback :) seems quite positive, just worried maybe it does sound a little bit pretentious which I don’t like at all!

I met someone with a DS called Torin and she said it was local to the Isle of Man. Don’t know if that’s true!

BabyMoonPie · 19/05/2020 11:34

@Luckyme30 - We gave DD what we thought was a fairly classic name and have had so many comments along the lines of I've not heard that in ages! Naming a small human is hard!!

Luckyme30 · 19/05/2020 12:08

@BabyMoonPie it really is hard isn’t it!! I had lots of girls name but really struggling to find boys names we both agree on!

What did you call your baby?
