Boys name Torin

Me and my partner are really struggling for boys names. I have literally scoured the internet and the only name I am really keen on in Torin.

What does everyone think?

We don’t want a traditional name that is certain, I had lots of girls names I liked but can’t seem to find any boys names that I like the sound of.

I think of it as Scandi as well, really like it...

AliasGrape · 19/05/2020 12:17

It’s Irish isn’t it? I taught a Torin years back and commented what a nice name it was to his mum, who told me it was an Irish name (fathers family were Irish).

I like it a lot actually.

weebarra · 19/05/2020 12:19

I like Torin. Pronounced Torr-in.

Luckyme30 · 19/05/2020 13:38

It’s Irish I believe. My name is welsh and my brothers name Irish, so I decided to have a little look at welsh and Irish boys names and that’s how I came across it :)

Nick name Tory? 😬 autocorrects to torrid?

I do like Corin... But perhaps Corin is too close to corbyn? Up to you which side of that divide you prefer 😅

I’m not sure OP... don’t hate it but didn’t think “oh how striking/interesting” either. Sorry!

Flappingflamingo · 19/05/2020 14:34

🤦🏻‍♀️ Just realised, they used scandi names for the middle names, sorry!! 😂 😂

Luckyme30 · 19/05/2020 14:40

@littlejalapeno that’s ok, I knew it would divide opinions :)

It’s good to get feedback on it :)

I'd pronounce it Torrin.

I've come across a few. Scotland here.

daisypond · 19/05/2020 18:00

I like it. Pronounced Torr-in.

captainraymondholt · 19/05/2020 19:13

I like it. But the first thought that sprang to mind was Thorin Oakenshield. (However this is not a bad thing!)

Malysh · 19/05/2020 19:21

I like it. I also thought Thorin (pronunciation is the same in my language) but that actually makes me like it more !

I'd consider it if I thought I could get away with it ;)

Malysh · 19/05/2020 19:22

To clarify - I couldn't get away with it because it would seem too unusual in my country, not because there's anything wrong with the name !

Cindie943811A · 19/05/2020 22:40

I think it sounds a good strong name and there’s nothing pretentious about it at all unless you consider a name that’s not two a penny as pretentious!

CoffeeRunner · 19/05/2020 22:45

A friend of mine has a Torin. Pronounced Torr-in. To rhyme with Forrin.

It’s a lovely name & I’ve honestly never known why it hasn’t become more popular.

123Dancewithme · 20/05/2020 00:03

I like it but only pronounced to rhyme with foreign. I don’t like the “tour-in” pronunciation.

Mooncake2020 · 21/05/2020 01:38

Like it

Natt99 · 21/05/2020 11:34

Like it! I know one in their mid 30's called this. They pronounce it as as you would say Torrid.
An alternative could be Tarryn, friends have recently named their baby this, think it's welsh

LookingforCrisps · 21/05/2020 14:10

I’ve got a Torin, so obviously I love it! Had some great responses when he was born and also some blank responses too Grin
