Thoughts on the name Jesse for a boy? It's one of the few names DH and I can agree on! I know in some regions it can be used as an insult, but we're from the South of England and I had honestly never heard of this before I started looking up the name! But it has given me pause for thought. So I thought I'd see what other people thought!

It’s a very popular American boys name.
If you like it then go for it!

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 18/05/2020 21:45

I loved this name but DH hated it.

Clawdy · 18/05/2020 21:46

It's a lovely name. Regarded as very cool with the footballer Jesse Lingard where we live! Great name.

Firstimemam · 18/05/2020 21:48

I like it, I had a Jesse in my school - his dad was American.

LilyMarshall · 18/05/2020 21:49

Me and DH love it.
It was our top boy name for our eldest who ended up being a girl.
And I haven't heard anyone round where I live with it so not overly popular either

GlennRheeismyfavourite · 18/05/2020 21:55

Absolutely hate it for a boy - can't really explain why! Maybe because it sounds so girly to me. Each to their own!!

Aquamarine1029 · 18/05/2020 21:57

I absolutely love the name Jesse. I've know 3 of them in my life and they were all lovely. One of them was a friend of my grandparents and he died 30 years away at 85, so clearly this name has been around a very long time!

Babdoc · 18/05/2020 21:59

Good job you don’t live in Scotland, OP! Calling a lad a big Jessie is a standard insult up here.

Zana2222 · 18/05/2020 21:59

It’s a great name

FourPlasticRings · 18/05/2020 22:02

Love it.

Carouselfish · 18/05/2020 22:02

Love and it's top of my list. Agree it's very American but in a classic way.

FourPlasticRings · 18/05/2020 22:03

Calling a lad a big Jessie is a standard insult up here.

Sounds sexist.

Mucklowe · 18/05/2020 22:11

Dreadful. Too similar to Jessie.

NameChange84 · 18/05/2020 22:14

Love it.

NeedToKnow101 · 18/05/2020 22:15

I love it!

AdalbertWaffling · 18/05/2020 22:16

Oh this has gone well! Smile Mainly positive responses, I'm so pleased!

I wish I'd used it - it would have suited DS1 maybe more than his actual name!

chillandrelax · 18/05/2020 22:29

Love this name. DH wasn't keen though. I know one who is late 20's.

pilates · 18/05/2020 22:32

Love it

Lorddenning1 · 18/05/2020 22:48

My son is named Jesse and he suits it, we struggled with fertility issues and when we looked up what the name meant, it means a gift from god and it's an d Hebrew name from the bible Smile
He nick name his Jester as he is quite an handful, I think the "don't be such a big Jesse" is a generation thing and I doubt he will get called this in the play ground etc, I love his name and I get such positive responses when I say his name, he does also get called Jess for short too.

Whatsyourflava · 18/05/2020 23:21

I LOVE it SO MUCH. My best friend loves the name and is planning on using it for her little boy - I'm a bit jealous.

Congratulations @Lorddenning1 on your little Jesse, I'm not surprised you get compliments! Oh and Jester is such a cool nickname!
