What’s your favourite of our top three for each, and what do you think of when you hear them? Are they classics? Any recommendations?

Margot
Penelope
Blythe

Alexander
Theodore
Louis

I like Blythe and Alexander best

I really dislike Margot. I don't like the sound and also the only Margot's I've met have been a but rude and brash

Penelope is nice enough, I find it a bit fancy and wouldn't choose it myself as I would feel it didn't fit us iyswim

Love Alexander, not so keen on Alex. Adore Sacha, like Alec and Zander. Andie is OK too

I really can't stand Louis. I find it whiny. Theodore is OK, I like Ted but hate Teddy and Theo

Margot - I'm not a huge fan although I believe it's growing in popularity so maybe that's just me! Quite a hard-sounding name.
Penelope - love! My favourite!
Blythe - unusual. Penelope Blythe flows well was my first thought. I do quite like it as a first name too.

Alexander - top choice. Great name.
Theodore- I know soooooo many, I'm over it I'm afraid. Boring!
Louis - I'm not a fan of this either. There's nothing wrong with it, it's just a bit wishy-washy to me.

Malysh · 13/05/2020 19:28

For the girls I really like Blythe. It's a bit more unusual and I like the way it sounds. Margot and Penelope seem a bit ubiquitous right now, also I don't love Penny as a nickname. Margot was originally a nickname for Marguerite I think ? Which to me (not british) sounds quite old-fashioned and a bit strange on a little girl.

Blythe sounds more modern and dynamic !

It's harder with your boy's names as I like all three of them ! Alexander is a classic and always sounds great. Theo might be very common these days, if that bothers you. Love Louis, it's a royal name but doesn't feel old-fashioned at all.

Frankly I'm not sure how to pick, is there one that flows better with your last name ?

If I had to choose I'd go for Louis I think as Alex and Theo are more common, and I love Lou as a nickname, but it's a hard choice !

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 13/05/2020 19:31

Penelope
Alexander

cptartapp · 13/05/2020 19:43

I love Alexander but none of the others.
Hearing Margot a lot lately. Penelope too tbh. Not keen.
Theo is very common.

Rocksandstones · 13/05/2020 19:53

Margot - like, my favourite
Penelope - quite like this
Blythe - not keen

Alexander - like
Theodore - like this but much too overused in my opinion
Louis - love, my favourite

Penelope and Theodore have my vote! Grin

LotusClover · 13/05/2020 20:48

Very strongly dislike all 3 girls names, especially Margot.

Louis is nice. I don't like the other 2.

BabyDust13 · 13/05/2020 20:56

Penelope and Theodore are lovely

Edenember · 13/05/2020 21:02

@dillytilly oooh this is really difficult, all strong choices. From the girls I like both Margot and Penelope, Blythe has more of A middle name feel for me and I’ve absolutely no idea why. I would use all 3 unless. Margot Penelope Blythe or Penelope Margot Blythe unless you already have names chosen for middles or dislike middle names. As far as Penelope goes I’d just be sure you’re happy with it being shortened to Penny because I feel it’s a name that definitely will be shortened whether you like it or not. For the record I like Penny but if you don’t you’d be setting yourself up for a lifetime of correction and frustration. Of the boys names I prefer Louis, I feel like Theodore seems to be very popular on here although I don’t know how that translates into popularity in the real world or whether such things matter to you. Again would definitely be shortened by classmates as would Alexander so as long as you’re happy with the shortened forms because realistically that’s what you’d be hearing from people day to day.

peperethecat · 13/05/2020 21:41

I like them all except Blythe. Although I wouldn't mind Blythe as a middle name.

Maybelatte · 13/05/2020 21:45

Penelope and Louis.

I don’t mind Margot either but not keen on any of the others.

missmouse101 · 13/05/2020 21:47

Margot is a geriatric name and looks like Maggot. Penelope is nice and Alexander is nice.
