How to pick a girls name? Find fault with everything... shortlist included

Hi - I feel like every name I like/love I also find fault with. It's got to a point where I'm settling on names because they have the 'least' wrong with them. Am I overthinking things? Certain names I love are in the top 30 names so I veto for that reason. Others are good but one of the syllables has a funny vibe or reminds me of something unpleasant. How do you choose????

DP and I have settled atm on two which we both like/love: Rosa and Aurelia. DP really likes Aurelia, whereas Rosa is my favourite. Aurelia I like but I don't like how it can be pronounced in many diff ways and its quite long/princessy... Rosa seems simple, classic, sophisticated...

The last name is long and is a bit unusual so I want her to have a relatively simple name.

Other names I like are:

Anais
Eva
Ailsa (DP doesn't like)
Olivia (too popular though and I knew one who I don't like, but strangely doesn't put me off)
Isla (too popular)
Margot /Maurgaux
Rosalia (partner thinks it sounds like a skin disease)
Alodia
Alba
Mila

But yeah, I just find fault with everything. Any advice on how to stop over thinking and pick?

Oh and last name ends with an "ie" sound so want to avoid names like Amelie, Elodie, Rosalie, Frankie etc.

I also like Emilia but is this just same really as Amelia? And Amelia seems way too common...

How about Rosalie?

MarieQueenofScots · 13/05/2020 14:15

Cross post!

Lailaloo747 · 13/05/2020 14:19

I LOVE Margot. My friend just called her DD Margot and I think it’s beautiful.
Anais is pretty too.

Orphlids · 13/05/2020 14:28

I was going to use Margot, until I saw the upwards trajectory s it sailed into the top 100. It’s going to be extremely common soon, I suspect. I’m back to the drawing board. I prefer Rosa to Aurelia, for the same reasons you do. Simply and classy.

How about Celeste? Simply sound, but unusual.

IslayBrigid · 13/05/2020 14:44

@Orphilds thank you, yes Rosa is lovely isn't it. And not top 100.

I like Celeste but it reminds me of molest :(

I quite like Minerva, Minnie for short. But feels a bit old lady / Harry Potter....

@Lailaloo747

Thank you, yes I like Margot /Marguax but I do fear it is getting very popular and reminds me slightly of maggot (see my issue?? haha). But then again, I have a popular name IRL and it's not the end of the world really.

@MarieQueenofScots I like Rosalie! Also Auralie, Elodie but alas, too many 'ie' sounds with the last name... x

Rosa sounds lovely. If your dd doesn’t like Alisa , what about Alycia (pronounced like Alis-ce-ya) which is really pretty.

Agree Margot a lovely name but in the last year become very popular, 2 of my friends have called their dds this in the last few months.

Alba is cute too.

DoctorBambino · 13/05/2020 14:54

I think Rosa is nice. Practice saying it in regular every day sentences, imagine shouting it out in the supermarket, introducing her to family, friends, strangers. Something will feel right eventually.

HonestOpinion10 · 13/05/2020 14:54

Elizabeth?
Abigail?
Georgia?
Catherine?
Jocasta?
Rosalind?
Tabitha?

SorryImNotCreative · 13/05/2020 15:08

Just a few suggestions...

Cora
Eliza
Delilah
Layla
Lila
Mia
Nora
Cara

123Dancewithme · 13/05/2020 15:20

Rosa is lovely

MikeUniformMike · 13/05/2020 15:28

Anais- not keen, sounds hard.
Eva - boring and i don't like it
Ailsa (DP doesn't like) - nice
Olivia (too popular though and I knew one who I don't like, but strangely doesn't put me off) - way too popular
Isla (too popular) - too popular, a bit downmarket maybe?
Margot /Maurgaux - not that spelling. not keen anyway
Rosalia (partner thinks it sounds like a skin disease) - no
Alodia - no
Alba - cheap Argos electrical brand
Mila - no

Fiflowertot · 13/05/2020 15:41

Marnie?
I think it’s such a beautiful name!

Whatsyourflava · 13/05/2020 15:51

Marnie is lovely! I wouldn't worry too much about the surname. Infact I think it might have nice symmetry.
Love Margot too

Or how about:

Mabel
Greta
Martha
Willa
Edith /Edie
Margaret /Maggie/Peggy
Clementine/Clemmie
Pearl
Delilah
Roxanne/Roxanna/Roseanne
Ottilie /Ottie
Cora
Liberty
Jemima
Holly
Cleo
Wren
Clover

Enough4me · 13/05/2020 15:54

What nn would you use for Aurelia?
I would go with Rosa.

merryhouse · 13/05/2020 16:03

Anais has a weird sound in the middle

Margot is ugly (have thought this for over 40 years)

I like Olivia. I've never been bothered over how popular a name is.

Alba and Mila are a bit stark (and Mila sounds like you wanted to call a son Milo). Alodia is just weird.

Jemima? Adelaide? Lydia? Rosanna? Louis(e/a)?

KindnessCrusader · 13/05/2020 16:10

Absolutely LOVE Alba.

BriocheBriocheBrioche · 13/05/2020 16:17

Whatsyourflava

I have a Margot and my other daughter has a name on your list.
In fact, most of your list was on mine too!

How about Constance (Connie), Celeste or Beatrice?

PenfoldsFive · 13/05/2020 16:21

Auralia = Oral

IslayBrigid · 13/05/2020 16:48

Thanks everyone!

Useful to get thoughts :)

Eva and Olivia are both gorgeous. I

Maria
Sofia
Emma
Emilia
Keira
Liza

MrsSchadenfreude · 13/05/2020 17:39

I know three Aurelias and they are Aura (Ow-ra), Rellie and Aur.

cheeseycracker · 13/05/2020 18:36

Not Anaïs as the pronunciation is a nightmare for many (people just say Annay 🙄)

Ailsa reminds me of Alf's wife in Home and Away Grin

Go for Rosa, short, simple yet beautiful.

17caterpillars1mouse · 13/05/2020 18:51

Rosa is lovely. Aurelia is too frilly for my tastes

Have you considered Aleda (a-lay-duh) seems like a name you might like
