We like classic names that are perhaps underused, or less popular for boys. Having read through some threads on MN they seem to crop up a lot but in reality we don't know of any little boys with these names. Looking for some more suggestions that you think we may like as we are still in the early stages of getting some lists together to try to see what we like the most.

So far we have

  • Edward
  • Kit
  • Rupert
  • Felix
  • Peter
  • Rudy
  • Alexander (more likely to be used as a middle name)

The names pop up a lot on Mumsnet as people suggest more unusual names. For example I probably wouldn't bother suggesting "Oliver" or "Olivia" lovely names but I'd assume the poster had already considered them as they're the number 1 names

My favourites from you list are 🤩Rudy🤩 top choice but also Kit and Felix

ifcarlsbergdidusernames · 11/05/2020 16:46

@flymetothestars yes, you're right there. I'd have never thought of Peter until I saw @Helskitchen list of boy names. We had such similar taste and I loved Peter from that.

Thank you, we love those names too!

@Standrewsschool that was my worry, that the popularity in MN was a sign of things to come.

Love Giles, Franklin and Dominic from your suggestions. I love Benedict too but hubs isn't on board with it.

I looked at the list of most popular baby names from 1880-1900, as that seems around right for your tastes (mine too, often).

Others mentioned on the list and not mentioned above (though not all to my taste) include

Robert
Leonard
Sidney
David
Edwin
Hugh
Hugo
Ivor
Edmund
Lawrence
Roland

Whatsyourflava · 12/05/2020 09:14

Look at the name charts @ifcarlsbergdidusernames don't rely on how often a name is mentioned on Mumsnet, it's really not reflective.
People often would only come on here to ask about a more unusual name in the first place.

Names like Vivienne for example come up here all the time yet that name was used less than 90 times in a whole year in the last set of official set of statistics (0.013% of babies). The name is also on a downward trajectory. Look at the charts not at Mumsnet frequency if you want to know how often a name is used

Whatsyourflava · 12/05/2020 09:25

I also notice that names like Joshua for example are almost never mentioned on Mumsnet yet it's number 17 in the chart!
I think some of the more popular names just aren't mentioned as people assume a poster will have already considered them

OnABeachSomewhere · 12/05/2020 09:28

Felix and Peter are my favourites of your list.

Jasper
Rowan
Luca
Anthony
Oscar
Michael
Vincent
Nathan
Leo
