Thoughts on the name 'Drake'?

Basically as the title says.

DH really likes this name. I like it too, especially the nature connotation, but I know that it is more unusual.

I have never met a Drake, only know it from a TV show called 'Drake and Josh'.

What do you think of this name? Would you think it was a bit 'out there' if someone you knew named their child Drake?

i know its not his real name but makes me think of the rapper

zaphodbeeble · 08/05/2020 10:37

You've never heard of the rapper ? Or the fact that it's a duck ?

HopeWish · 08/05/2020 10:41

Haha I have to say that I'd completely forgot about the rapper. Not my kind of Music I'm afraid! That's that name crossed off the list then. Thank you.

And the duck thing was the nature connotation... like people name their kids 'wren' and 'robin'...?

I wouldn't think it was "out there" it's a similar sound to Blake.
If you both like it I'd go for it. Does it go with the surname?

Mikki2019 · 08/05/2020 10:43

everyone under 30 would just think of the Canadian rapper

StarsandBellinis · 08/05/2020 10:45

Dr Drake Ramoray! That's the first thing that sprung to mind for me!

AllianceOfCorcles · 08/05/2020 10:46

Vampire comes to mind

Mikki2019 · 08/05/2020 10:47

Honestly OP, it would be like calling your baby Eminem !

VoyageInTheDark · 08/05/2020 10:49

I thought of the rapper too and I'm over 30!

KnobwithaK · 08/05/2020 10:49

It's a boy duck.

Also, male ducks are really not very nice - it's horrible to see them chasing after the females this time of year, and see the females with bald patches on their heads where the males have jumped on top to have sex with them (massive anthropomorphism I know.. but it makes me sad).

PaulinePetrovaPosey · 08/05/2020 10:49

I call my DD Duckling as a pet name, so it kinda works.

Newjez · 08/05/2020 10:50

Duck

Tsubasa1 · 08/05/2020 10:52

Its awful. I really like Duke as an alternative.

Sylvari · 08/05/2020 10:54

I don't get how calling a kid Drake is too duckish when people literally call their kids all sorts of word-nature-names like River, Robin, Sage, Holly. Holly is just a prickly Bush! 🙉

I think of ducks (not a bad thing for me) and Drake and Josh TV show way more than the rapper (I'm early 20s)

Mistymonday · 08/05/2020 11:15

Male duck.

2007Millie · 08/05/2020 11:20

No. Just no.

Kenworthington · 08/05/2020 11:25

Rapper. And I’m mid 40s. Just dont

Mucklowe · 08/05/2020 11:30

Awful. Such an unpleasant sound.

Dozer · 08/05/2020 11:32

Worth the thread just for the weird combo of ducks, Drake Ramoray and rap Grin

123Dancewithme · 08/05/2020 11:32

Just makes me think of the rapper

adelaya · 08/05/2020 11:38

Charlie Drake

daisypond · 08/05/2020 12:13

I thought if the rapper straight away. But leaving that aside, I don’t think it’s too bad. I’ve heard much worse.

Pemba · 08/05/2020 12:27

Male duck. Never heard of the rapper. Vampire someone said??

There was one in Poldark ( Demelza's brother) and he was a good character - only one I've come across - but no, not really. It's a very harsh sound. No natural diminutives either.

ikeakia · 08/05/2020 20:07

I have a Dracob, who sometimes goes by Drake or Drakie, he’s 10. Had no problems at all with his name.

CloudsCoveredTheSky · 08/05/2020 20:11

"I have a Dracob"

Oh you do not.
