Daphne
Mara
Nina
Lola
Edna
Flora
Ruby
Florence
Leila
Lily
Evangeline
Lilias
Robyn
Rae
Margot
Maeve

DH wants Leila mainly because it’s a very loved past family members name
I like Nina but he thinks it’s a harder sounding name and wants something softer

Older brother called Hugo

@Rebelwithallthecause I like Flora, Florence and Margot from your list but would veto Margot due to repeating an o ending name with Hugo. I prefer Laila or Layla spelling but purely personal preference.

peperethecat · 07/05/2020 19:11

Leila is my favourite from that list and would mean a lot to your husband.

I also like Mara, Nina, Flora, Ruby, Florence, Lily, Margot and Maeve.

Not so keen on the others.

peperethecat · 07/05/2020 19:12

Actually I agree that Margot sounds a bit weird with Hugo.

Spied · 07/05/2020 19:13

Florence or Nina.
I like Rae but it's more of a mn imo.
Is Leila Lee-la or Lie-la? This would put me off.
Isn't Lilias something evil?
Lola, Ruby and Lily are a little over used here.
Dislike Margot and Maeve immensely.

missmouse101 · 07/05/2020 19:15

Mara and Robyn are the only two I like.

missyB1 · 07/05/2020 19:16

Leila is nice (if it’s pronounced Layla).
I love Daphne it’s one of my favourites.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 07/05/2020 19:18

Daphne - dislike
Mara - ok but not great
Nina - ok
Lola - ok but sounds a bit wet to me
Edna - to quote Rachel Green: are you having an 89 year old?
Flora - buttery
Ruby - overused
Florence - overused
Leila - would mean a lot to your DH, sounds nice
Lily - overused
Evangeline - hate
Lilias - dislike
Robyn - no feelings either way
Rae - I like this
Margot - dislike strongly and sounds stupid with Hugo
Maeve - no feelings either way

tempnamechange98765 · 07/05/2020 19:19

From your list I like Lola, Florence and Margot

17caterpillars1mouse · 07/05/2020 19:21

Daphne - I really don't like it
Mara - nice, simple name, not popular
Nina - I've never met a nice one which puts me off
Lola - I find it tacky
Edna - love it, but would be a bold chpice
Flora - pretty
Ruby - I like it
Florence - lovely but very popular
Leila - not a fan, seems overdone
Lily - pretty but they are everywhere
Evangeline - gorgeous name
Lilias - not a fan. Prefer Lillian or Lilith
Robyn - it's OK, I prefer Robin on a boy
Rae - meh
Margot - dislike
Maeve - gorgeous

Adelais · 07/05/2020 19:22

Flora gets my vote

CurlyEndive · 07/05/2020 19:23

I like Leila, Lily and Robyn.

Dislike Edna, Evangeline and Rae.

JKSN · 07/05/2020 19:23

I love Maeve. Also like Flora and Florence. What about Fleur?

TeddyBeans · 07/05/2020 19:25

Personally I think family names should be used as middle names because your little one is their own person and deserves their own name, not a recycled one. I appreciate I may be in the minority with this line of thinking

Florence Leila sounds lovely (depending on your surname) imo

BruceWilllis · 07/05/2020 19:28

Anything other than Edna (hideous) or Lilias (sounds silly). Robyn is my favorite but Leila has a nice connection for you.

daisy112 · 07/05/2020 19:28

Love Nina & Florence x

Rebelwithallthecause · 07/05/2020 20:49

@TeddyBeans I grew with you there and think that may be why I’m holding back on it

Only problem is I like Nina and you definitely can’t have a Nina Leila.

DH less keep on Florence Or otherwise that would go nicely

Grew = agree

redberrytree · 07/05/2020 21:00

Love Nina, number one if I had a girl

Also like Mara and Maeve

Then I would pick

Lola
Ruby

Personally not keen on
Daphne

Edna
Margot
(Too old ladyish)

TeddyBeans · 07/05/2020 21:06

I have 2 middle names, my first name and my second middle name have the same 'ee' sound at the end but my whole name flows really nicely (imo). Would DH be offended if Leila was the last middle name? You could easily slot something between Nina and Leila - maybe a family member from your side?

LotusClover · 07/05/2020 21:19

Daphne - dislike
Mara - like
Nina - strongly dislike
Lola - like
Edna - dislike, too dated
Flora - LOVE
Ruby - love
Florence - LOVE
Leila - prefer the spelling Layla
Lily - LOVE
Evangeline - strongly dislike
Lilias - like
Robyn - like
Rae - dislike
Margot - strongly dislike, too dated
Maeve - love

I would narrow it down to Mara, Ruby, Flora, Florence, Lily and Maeve.

babynamelover · 07/05/2020 22:48

Flora it's darling with Hugo 😍

IVflytrap · 08/05/2020 23:14

My favourites are

Daphne
Nina
Flora
Lilias
Maeve

I agree with family names as middle names. I think it's a lovely nod, while allowing a child their own separate identity in their first name.

Ikeameatballs · 08/05/2020 23:21

NOT Edna!!

I love Nina, Leila and Mara from your list and I like Flora, Rae, Daphne and Maeve.

What about Marnie?

Other ideas:

Cara
Greta
Una
Vita
Mary
Lydia
Tess
Thora
Phoebe
Joy

RumpoleoftheBaileys · 08/05/2020 23:34

From your list - def Margot. Beautiful.

ikeakia · 09/05/2020 05:29

From your list I’d choose Leila with Rae as a middle name. If the family member has passed then the name will become her own.
