Hi! Looking for honest opinions on my boys names list, cut it down and tell me why you've removed the ones you have? It's so long and me and OH constantly argue about which names deserve to be at the top (not pregnant yet but on month 5 of trying).

Elliot

Sullivan
Harvey

Zachary

Archer

Teddy

Joey

Wyatt

Max/Maxwell

Abel

Ashton

Elias

Axel

Kian

Grayson

Harvey- no reminds me of the furniture store.
Zachary - no
Archer - I like this, but not a fan of Archie as a nn.
Teddy - popular
Joey - no
Wyatt - ok
Max/Maxwell - popular
Abel - no awful
Ashton- ok
Elias - no
Axel - no
Kian - dated
Grayson - ok
Harrison - ok
Holden/Holder - no awful reminds me of a gun for some reason.
Arlo - like
Beau - no
Hayes - not a fan.

LotusClover · 07/05/2020 16:55

Elliot - like
Sullivan - not my taste
Harvey - LOVE
Zachary - dislike
Archer - dislike
Teddy - strongly, STRONGLY dislike
Joey - love
Wyatt - like
Max/Maxwell - too common
Abel - dislike
Ashton - not my taste
Elias - like
Axel - will get misread as Alex
Kian - like
Grayson - not my taste
Harrison - like
Holden/Holder - dislike
Arlo - like but will date
Beau - strongly dislike
Hayes - dislike

I woukd take Teddy off the list straight away, it's way too childish and cutesy. Wouldn't look good on a grown man.

Then I'd get rid of Archer, Abel, Holden/Holder, Beau and Hayes.

The only ones I truly like are Elliot, Harvey, Joey and Wyatt.

HopeWish · 07/05/2020 17:00

As a teacher, I apologise in advance for associating names with pupils I have taught!

Elliot - Love this name, it's on my list too! Taught a pupil with this name who was a bit of a muppet.
Sullivan - Not sure about this... reminds me of monsters inc. (sully)
Harvey - Alright name - also another dopey kid!
Zachary - Like this name
Archer - This one is good too!
Teddy - A bit too 'sickly sweet'. I can't imagine a grown up teddy. How about Theodore or Edward with nn teddy?
Joey - nooo too much like joey from friends.
Wyatt - Don't really know any of these, nice name but unusual.
Max/Maxwell - I prefer Max to Maxwell. Taught a couple of Max's, it is quite a popular name at the moment.
Abel - I like this name, an underused biblical name.
Ashton - Taught one of these. He was a little . Sorry.
Elias - I like this one.
Axel - Never really liked this name, sorry.
Kian - Taught a couple of these, one was a genius, one was a psycho and one was a bit vacant...
Grayson - Not for a first name, sounds like a surname.
Harrison - Taught one of these - very confident.
Holden/Holder - Nope sorry, don't like it. (never heard of Holder..?)
Arlo - Very very popular at the moment. Also the dinosaur from disney.
Beau - Taught one of these, really like the name. Pronounced bo (like bow in archery)
Hayes - Not keen, sounds too much like a surname.

MikeUniformMike · 07/05/2020 17:03

Elliot - nice as a surname, a bit wet as a first name
Sullivan - no
Harvey - yes
Zachary - yes but it's probably a lot more popular than you think
Archer - awful. Even worse than Archie. Bowman is better
Teddy - another one.
Joey - baby kangaroo
Wyatt - not sure
Max/Maxwell - Max.
Abel - ok
Ashton - ok
Elias - dislike. Too long, too nothingy
Axel - yed
Kian - isn't it Cian. No.
Grayson - awful
Harrison - prefer Harry
Holden/Holder - Catcher in the Rye or Noddy. No to both.
Arlo - dislike. Likely to be overused
Beau - No. Bowman is better
Hayes - car manual or & Harlington?

MikeUniformMike · 07/05/2020 17:04

Yes not yed. I'd choose Max or Axel.

Karcheer · 07/05/2020 17:15

Elliot
Sullivan Surname
Harvey
Zachary
Archer Surname reminds me of Geoffrey
Teddy Call him Edward and use this as a nickname
Joey call him Joseph and use as a nickname
Wyatt Earp
Max/Maxwell
Abel and Cole
Ashton
Elias
Axel rose
Kian
Grayson
Harrison
Holden/Holder Reminds me of that annoying woman on tv Amanda.
Arlo
Beau sounds like a girls name
Hayes A place in london...

I’ve commented on the ones I don’t like.

chunkycoke · 07/05/2020 17:18

Elliot-like it. But can be spelled lots of different ways.
Sullivan-not a fan
Harvey-no
Zachary-like
Archer-like
Teddy-not a fan, doesn’t age well
Joey-not a fan of Joe
Wyatt-love
Max/Maxwell-like
Abel-like
Ashton-like
Elias-like
Axel-like
Kian-I have one. He gets complemented on it quite a lot.

Holden/Holder-not a fan
Arlo-like
Beau-like
Hayes-not a fan

HopeYouStepOnALego · 07/05/2020 17:19

Elliot - quite like this
Sullivan - Monsters Inc (Sully) and also hate surnames as first names
Harvey - Nope, but only because it reminds me of Weinstein
Zachary - like this
Archer - hmm, not sure
Teddy - Nope, too babyish. Use Ted, Edward etc and have Teddy as NN
Joey - Again, go for a straight Joe and have Joey as cutsie NN whilst a baby
Wyatt - Don't particularly like this
Max/Maxwell - Like
Abel - Don't like
Ashton - I know an Ashton and it really suits him
Elias - Like, bit unusual
Axel - Don't particularly like. Just think of a car axle
Kian - Dated
Grayson - another surname
Harrison - surname, but not as bad as the previous ones
Holden/Holder - Amanda Holden/Noddy Holder
Arlo - undecided
Beau - I'd pronounce this 'bow' but find it too feminine for a boy
Hayes - surname

pinkpinecone · 07/05/2020 17:21

Arlo, Zachary and Max are my favourites from your list, Op.

I'd steer clear of Hayes it's so problematic for a variety of reasons. It's an nondescript part of west London, a recruitment agency and it also makes me think of hazing which are those horrible initiation rituals at American universities.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 07/05/2020 17:24

Elliot
Arlo
Beau

SarahTTCx · 07/05/2020 17:26

@pinkpinecone Hayes is a tough one for me! I do love the sound of it and because I live nowhere near London that wouldn't be an issue! It's also the surname of my great grandma so would be meaningful but not sure how it would go down with people around me!

OP posts:
MikeUniformMike · 07/05/2020 17:30

Use Hayes as a middle name. The car manual is Haynes not Hayes. [oops] Hayes & Harlington is a railway station.

whatausername · 07/05/2020 17:31

I vetoed Sullivan (partly the sound, mostly the meaning of Sully. Expect many jokes of him "sullying" people when he's a teen!)
Also:
Grayson - son of Gray? It's not even a colour, it's a shade (and should stay that way. Did its popularity rise with that domination/submission book series I wonder?)
Harrison - I'd think you were biiiiiig Markle & Harry fans. I'm sure they're nice and all but not nice enough to name my child in admiration of
Beau - means handsome, I find names with such obvious qualities a bit awkward. I'm sure any DS would be handsome! But it's like calling a DD Grace and her being noted as a human springboard 😂
Teddy - should be reserved for teddies. He will become a child then a teen and subsequently an adult. Bit hard to take him seriously when you think he ought to be decorated with a ribbon and sat on a windowsill

Dislike Axel and Holden/Holder and find Kian a bit 'done'.

Good luck with TTC!

CallItLoneliness · 07/05/2020 17:32

You seem to like similar names to me, I love Arlo, Elias, and Elliot. You might also like Stellan, Osmo and Ezra if you like that sort of name. We also considered Sacha, but Baron-Cohen put paid to that.

Edenember · 07/05/2020 17:33

@SarahTTCx I like Zachary and Archer from your list X

pinkpinecone · 07/05/2020 17:33

@SarahTTCx I agree it's lovely to use family names with meaning and could make a great middle name.

Arlo *

Joey
Teddy
Archer
Harvey
Elliot
All fabulous, all on my own list but I have 3 DDs and am done. I think you have fabulous taste. Was particularly disappointed not to use Archer as DDs 2 and 3 born during sign of sagittarius, would have been so appropriate. Oh well.

Bubbletrouble43 · 07/05/2020 18:41

Fwiw for me Joey and Teddy would have been nns, Joseph and Edward on their birth certificates.
