Classy and meaningful?

We are considering Allegra for DD1.. I play piano and I feel that the meaning of joyful and happy is lovely along with the musical ties. What do you think of Allegra?

Personally I don't like it as it sounds very harsh to me, but I do like the meaning and the musical references. It's the 'gr' sound that doesn't appeal to me.

Just to add, you asked if it's classy - yes, it is. Not my style, but I do consider it a classy, elegant name.

I taught an Allegra, it's a beautiful name certainly classy and very uncommon.

Pretty name. Apparently is some kind of allergy medicine in the USA... I'm not sure how much that impacts you but I always see Americans bring that up.

I like the meaning of it and I do think it sounds classy, but there's something about the sound of the word that doesn't quite do it for me.

You might want to consider possible nicknames as well. Ali? OK but then it's no longer very unusual and people will probably think it's short for Alexandra. Leggy? Not great.

Sorry, I don't think it's classy at all. Also makes me think of those terrible Austin Allegro cars!

It is classy and I would assume the parents were either musical or Italian or both.

I think it’s lovely and very classy. I think Allie would be the natural shortening for it, and she’ll probably get called that at school, so that’s worth considering.

If you are looking for a name that's meaningful to you, other people's opinions are pretty meaningless!

I absolutely love it. Allegra sounds like a very self-assured, intelligent woman. I’d be excited (and maybe a tiny bit intimidated?) to be introduced to Allegra. Both classy and meaningful. Lovely for the daughter of a musician.

Not a fan of Allegra, but I think thats just because to me it sounds very gruff and masculine and i'm a big fan of very stereotypically feminine names. It's not awful and if I met an adult Allegra I wouldn't think anything of it but for some reason to me it doesn't fit a child so it would take some growing into!

Cadence seems to sound too American to me

To be honest I don't like it. It doesn't sound classy to me, quite the opposite infact. Perhaps a bit like your trying to hard to be classy and achieving the opposite because of this.
But she is your child so go for it if you like it x
