Help with girls list (part two)

Hello again everyone,

I wrote two threads of girls and boys names recently for your feedback. I think we are pretty much set for boys names and like all three of our options so will decide when we see him, if DC is a boy.

Girls names, on the other hand, have been a task. I'm not sure whether you read my last list but if not, it included Theodora, Dorothy, Vivienne, Felicity, Imogen, Frances and Lara.

DH decided that he had gone off the majority of them, due to them being "too fussy" 🙄 so we spent a lot of time reading through lots of the other threads for some inspiration over the weekend.

DH likes:

Edith
Claudia
Martha
(And will still consider my favourite name from the previous list, Felicity)

What are your thoughts on the additions to the list please? You were all so helpful on the last one!

🤞🏼☺️

My top two are Edith and Claudia from your list. Then Felicity. Lastly Martha. Just not keen on it at all.

Helskitchen · 04/05/2020 08:49

Thanks @SnowdropFox ☺️

Martha is my favourite from your list.

PurBal · 04/05/2020 09:00

I'd go for Felicity personally.

Helskitchen · 04/05/2020 09:12

Thanks all so far, please keep them coming ☺️🤞🏼

I like Martha and Edith from your list.

RickOShay · 04/05/2020 10:21

Felicity is my favourite.

zscaler · 04/05/2020 10:21

I love Martha and Felicity. The others are nice too though!

babynamelover · 04/05/2020 10:35

Edith because I adore Edie. Especially after reading her book Edie Windsor :)

LooseyGoosey · 04/05/2020 10:37

Claudia and Martha are both lovely.

Whatsyourflava · 04/05/2020 10:44

My favourites are:
Edith
Martha
Felicity
If I HAD to pick one I'd say Martha. But LOVE them all

My least favourite is Claudia for a few reasons.
I) it's meaning - it means "Lame" - not great
Ii) it just sounds like a male name with an A added on the end and I don't really like those type of names. In the same line as Georgia, Henrietta. Just a male name with a bit of frill because apparently girls love frill. Not keen.
Iii) Claude the Male name sounds French and that could well be the nickname
iiii) Claude means limping or stuttering. Another not great meaning

Whatsyourflava · 04/05/2020 10:47

What did you decide on for boys by the way?
As you know I adore your lists. I do totally see your DHs point about fussy though. There are quite a lot of fussy names about and it's lovely to have shorter snappier names.

Merename · 04/05/2020 10:52

Edith
Martha
Claudia

In that order - looooove Edith so much, know a gorgeous 4yr old one.

I’m sorry but really don’t like felicity - posh and pretentious for me, depends how posh you are?!

whichteaareyou · 04/05/2020 10:54

Martha is the best I do really like felicity though tho!

17caterpillars1mouse · 04/05/2020 10:57

Love Edith - would you consider Merrdith too?
Martha is OK, I know a few but it's not a name I've particularly warmed too

Not a fan of Claudia I'm afraid

I do like Felicity especially nn Flick

Loved Lara on your other list and wouldn't consider it fussy

123Dancewithme · 04/05/2020 10:58

Martha is my favourite

BenScalesIsAGod · 04/05/2020 11:00

Lara and Imogen aren’t fussy

Helskitchen · 04/05/2020 11:01

@whatsyourflava thank you, as always for the helpful feedback.

We still have the three boys names to play with. DH's fave is Rupert and my fave is Peter. I adore Felix too so I think we are going to see which suits him of the three. It's just great that we both love all three names.

I also see his point about the fussier names, they seem to be a trend at the moment and there are a lot of them so it may be wise to steer away and meet in the middle.

I read up the meaning of Claudia too, that it a little off putting but I do like the name. It's smart, timeless and well known but underused. I agree with you about the others, I do like them all. Felicity is my favourite of the three so my faves would be Claudia or Felicity and DH's would be Martha and Edith. I think the only thing that I was hesitant about with Edith more than Martha is that it may fall under the old lady name, (not that some of my other choices didn't) but the more we've discussed it, the more we've toyed with that thought...

The other DH added that I vetoed was Sylvie/Sylvia.

I honestly didn't think girls names would be so difficult!

Thanks all.

I agree about Lara and Imogen too. DH feels Imogen is fussy, and can't seem to explain that one (probably because I liked it!) and feels Lara is lovely but possibly a little plain against other choices and the boys names. He wasn't sure whether it would become another Ava etc and wanted to avoid that too.

I personally love both too!

@123caterpillars1mouse DH won't go for Meredith but that's a good suggestion, thank you!

Sb131216 · 04/05/2020 11:22

Felicity is still my favourite
