what's the consensus on pronunciation, and thoughts on Minty, Minnie and Clem/Clemmie (prefer first two but don't mind any)

I don't like Minty, but I love Clementine.

When she goes to school she will find her own nn, regardless on what you call her at home, so don't get too hung up on what it would be.

istheresomethingwrongwithme · 29/04/2020 12:31

Love this name. I know a very beautiful Clementine who goes by Clemmy and we also refer to her as Clem.

longtompot · 29/04/2020 12:35

My cousin has a Clementine who is called Clemmie. Love the name.

Odyc · 29/04/2020 12:37

I pronounce it as it is spelled. Like Minnie and Clem. Not keen on Clemmie and really don't like Minty.

Cantrip · 29/04/2020 12:38

I would pronounce it with the “tine” rhyming with “mine”, but I think people would equally say it to rhyme with “mean”. The Clementines I know all get nicknamed Clemmie.

Apolloanddaphne · 29/04/2020 12:39

It is such a lovely name. I had a great-aunt called Clem and she was wonderful.

pooopypants · 29/04/2020 12:42

Dragon Fruit has a far nicer ring to it Hmm

Flymetothestars · 29/04/2020 13:22

Such a beautiful name
A little more mainstream now (still underused) so I think pronunciation shouldn’t be too much of an issue these days
Love it

peperethecat · 29/04/2020 13:38

Like Clem, not keen on any of the other nicknames.

CakeandCoffeeQueen · 29/04/2020 13:39

Love it!

MrMeSeeks · 29/04/2020 13:45

Really dislike it, i would hate to have had it, but then you love it so do you!
Is there another way to pronounce this?

istheresomethingwrongwithme · 29/04/2020 13:46

Also love Clemency if you want to get away from the fruit association (not that it would bother me, but just a thought as other posters have mentioned it)

toughgetsgoing · 29/04/2020 14:12

Thanks, it’s a name in itself not like plants or flowers that are names but taken from the flower iyswim, and it’s a nice fruit - most usually Clem or Clemmie are the shortenings so wanted to know everyone’s thoughts on them Smile

I get that we can’t control the nn but she definitely does have Minnie and Minty as options which we love and are happy with Clem and Clemmie

I love Clementine one of my absolute favourites.

Orphlids · 29/04/2020 14:46

Yes, Clementine is a really smashing name! And I absolutely love the nn Minty - so posh, it’s wonderful, and definitely suggests a rather good sense of humour. I like all the other possibilities too, Clem, Clemmie.. and I also really like the nn Tiny.

raindrop83 · 29/04/2020 15:20

I absolutely love this name! It's one I'm considering myself. Out of interest what middle names do people think go well with it?

cinnabuns · 29/04/2020 15:21

Love it. Go for it.

Lavenderpurple · 29/04/2020 15:23

I do like it, but I can’t say clemmie without a posh accent.

raindrop83 · 29/04/2020 15:23

By the way, I've never heard of Minty or Minnie as nicknames for it!

joan12 · 29/04/2020 15:25

I think Minty is usually short for Araminta. I suppose it could work, though Clem and Clemmie seem more natural.

Ahundredpercentthatbitch · 29/04/2020 15:32

I don't mind Clementine but I hate Clemmie and Clem.

When my brother and I were little, our made up insult was 'clem'.

"You clem"

"You're a clem"

"You big, fat, clem"

Etc.

The word just always seemed to us to be ugly enough to be insulting!

ZebraKid71 · 29/04/2020 15:39

I love the full name but really dislike all the nn options.

raindrop83 · 29/04/2020 15:43

I've got to admit, I'm not a fan of Clem, makes me think of phlegm Hmm

LemonBreeland · 29/04/2020 15:46

I absolutely adore this name, but DH vetoed it for DD. I love all the nicknames too.
