"Wet" names?

Quite often I see people on here describing names as "wet". Sorry if I'm being stupid, but what is that supposed to mean?

Not rugged, alpha male kind of thing. Of course, it’s all terribly subjective , but for me, wet names are things like Rupert (which I still LOVE), Julian, Cecil, Arlo. If you can’t imagine him chopping logs on a hillside with his top off, then before ravishing you in the heather, then the name might be a bit wet.

Phoebe.

OwlBasket · 28/04/2020 20:38

The only truly wet name is Nigel.

missmouse101 · 28/04/2020 20:43

Tilly, Molly, Nancy
Wayne, Dennis, Timothy

But yes, subjective!

You wouldn’t be looking forward to meeting someone with a ‘wet’ name.

It is subjective though.

Other people’s wet names would set my heart racing in a good way - Rupert, Toby, Guy

My wet names are Casper, Aaron, Arlo, Reuben, Wilfred, drip drip drip

I like nearly all these names. I don't see why sounding macho and 'alpha male' is such a positive thing and having a name that somehow sounds more delicate and sensitive is a bad thing. And yes, it's so subjective, for one person a name might sound wet and wimpy, to another person that name might sound intellectual, mysterious, suave, etc.

Toby, lovely name but a tad wet. Tim is a very wet name in my opinion too.

Neville. Ugh.

HaveAtEm · 28/04/2020 21:01

Timothy, Arlo, Milo, Julian, Terence, Percy...as someone has already said, names that wouldn't conjure up in your mind an instant image of rippling, macho-ness 😂 Which in itself of course is very subjective...but you did ask!

'Wet' names, I guess, are the exact opposite of 'mucho-macho' names, in theory 🤷‍♀️ So no little Jonquil's or Tarquin's (unless your own personal fantasy of macho is a Jonquil or a Tarquin...then crack on 👍)

Thefaceofboe · 28/04/2020 21:03
