Expecting first baby late July, we know that we are having a boy. DH likes the name Ronnie, which I wasn't originally keen on but coming round to it.
We originally liked Oliver but decided against it because of how popular it is. We also like Alfie but I think I prefer Ronnie out of the two and is probably less popular... Thoughts please?

Must be a British thing to do with nicknames for boys 😊. I don't really like Ronnie or it's mate Reggie they are quite harsh sounding and not really old enough to be cool!

How awful. Who cares if Oliver is popular? If you like it then go for it. I hear Ronnie then I hear Reggie too. As will most of the population.

Unfortunately I also thought of the Krays right away, and then the two Ronnies.

But Ronnie would be Ron, then kids would say do one Ron.

I know someone who was going to call her twins Ronnie and Reggie. She was talked out of it and went with Sammy and Richie instead!

The only thing with Ronnie is it sounds like a nickname to me, rather than a full name (like Ronald)

Kray? Corbett? Barker?

Dyra · 26/04/2020 10:47

My first thought was of the two Ronnie's, rather than the gangster connection. As a whole, I don't like the name for a boy anyway. I like it much better as a NN for a girl.

Of the other names mentioned in your OP, I'd have said Alfie was becoming more popular than Oliver nowadays. Of the two, I prefer Oliver.

Ronnie - thuggish

Alfie - chavvy and common
