Whilst researching the name Arabella (as per previous thread), I came across Elodie.

Just wondered if you could all tell me what you think of the name and what sort of child you imagine Elodie would be?
May consider either Elodie Summer or Elodie Harper.

Thank you. X

LOVE it! I love all your names to be honest - I’ve not been very helpful as I keep liking them all. I’m actually quite picky normally

sakura06 · 24/04/2020 11:23

Elodie is lovely.

YinMnBlue · 24/04/2020 11:28

It’s French.

I know a couple of Elodies, one French, one not. One an adult, one a young teen.

Lovely name.

YinMnBlue · 24/04/2020 11:29

It’s a better name than either of your middle names Grin

evilharpy · 24/04/2020 11:30

Elodie is lovely, very pretty.

pinkpinecone · 24/04/2020 11:34

Elodie is lovely

cheeseycracker · 24/04/2020 11:39

It's been on my list for years. Love love it

Mucklowe · 24/04/2020 11:41

Too much of a wannabe name. The Amelie of today. Chosen by parents who think they're a bit sophisticated but aren't.

toughgetsgoing · 24/04/2020 11:44

tryna be cool name. hate it. better than melody which I despise

midnightstar66 · 24/04/2020 11:49

My niece is Elodie. She's a teen now and is quirky, independent, clever and kind. She can only find things in shops with her name on in France.

midnightstar66 · 24/04/2020 11:51

And they weren't tryna to be cool - they'd lived in France previously and loved French names. The plan at that a stage had been to move back there. Hmm

Drogonssmile · 24/04/2020 11:53

I really like it! Never considered it but it isn't wacky and unheard of but it is unusual. Very nice OP.

Ellmau · 24/04/2020 12:12

Born in 2019-2021.

It's pretty but will date very badly imo.

LotusClover · 24/04/2020 12:23

Very pretty, makes me picture a smiley, happy, well-behaved kid. Elodie Summer is gorgeous.

Blursula · 24/04/2020 12:45

I like it but won’t it end up being shortened?

I know an Eloda (Ella-da) who goes by Ellie

wonderrotunda · 24/04/2020 12:53

I see this name fairly often...could someone please let me know how it pronounced? Thank you!

123Dancewithme · 24/04/2020 12:55

I don’t like how it’s pronounced in English. It sounds much nicer in a French accent!

MikeUniformMike · 24/04/2020 13:02

Yet another El name.
Popular.

I'm not keen.

Blursula · 24/04/2020 13:53

@wonderrotunda melody without the m

Astronica · 24/04/2020 13:53

I think it's a lovely name. Elodie Summer is a really good combo.

wonderrotunda · 24/04/2020 14:01

Thank you @ Blursula that’s pretty. I thought it might be El Oh! Di (that’s how my brain read it) not so pretty!

Mammyloveswine · 24/04/2020 14:15

I love it, if DS2 had been a girl he would be Elodie Rose!

midnightstar66 · 24/04/2020 14:23

I'd say it's slightly more of an EE sound on the end than melody. But yes very similar

CreamWhitecakes · 24/04/2020 14:43

I'm really shocked that this name is so controversial and causes such a reaction by some.

I like it. It's a good solid name.
I have a french name ,maybe that makes me try hard!

Whatsyourflava · 24/04/2020 14:47

@CreamWhitecakes I don’t think it’s that controversial really. No name is going to be universally liked on MN or anywhere else. There’s about 12/13 people on this thread who love the name (including me!), 2-3 people who are indifferent to it, and about 4 who hate it. Those are pretty good odds really. V Controversial choices would have a different ratio of reactions I’d say.
