Getting to a spelling based on a sound

Changedname81 · 22/04/2020 19:09

The name is for a girl and the sound is Meeka. I don’t think this is a recognized spelling.

Obviously you have the boys name Micha (Myka) and then there is Mica which I believe is pronounced Misha?

Is Meeka a recognized girl name and we’ve overlooked an obvious spelling? (This is my cousins baby)

If it’s not a name no need to be harsh. Just inform us Grin

Mika

Whatsyourflava · 22/04/2020 19:11

Not heard of it, heard of Mia for girl and Micha for boy

anonymum95 · 22/04/2020 19:11

I'd speed it Mika

anonymum95 · 22/04/2020 19:11

Spell*

Jaguarana · 22/04/2020 19:16

I know someone from Holland whose name is Myke, pronounced Meeka. The only problem is that sometimes people think she's a man called Mike using a yooneek spelling.

StraightAndNarrow · 22/04/2020 19:16

Mika

Sexnotgender · 22/04/2020 19:17

I’d spell it Mika.

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 22/04/2020 19:18

Mika or Meke.

Some people might spell it Meekah so as not to have any confusion over the spelling, but it's not the prettiest spelling.

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 22/04/2020 19:19

Meka not Meke.

Windyatthebeach · 22/04/2020 19:20

Sorry but it looks like meerkat!!

Marcipex · 22/04/2020 19:34

Mika is I think the least confusing spelling.

summersun7 · 22/04/2020 19:44

Went to school with a girl called Mieke and she pronounced it "Mee-kah"

"Thename Miekeis agirl's nameof Dutch origin meaning "bitter". A Dutch version of Marie - this is a cutename that has potential."

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 22/04/2020 19:48

It's Mieke isn't it? My German exchange partner had a cousin called Mieke.

Elouera · 22/04/2020 19:48

Meeca? But then it looks too similar to Mecca!

Just go with Meeka.

totallyyesno · 22/04/2020 19:50

How about Micah?

lockdownstress · 22/04/2020 19:52

If you’re having this much trouble with it now then consider your poor future daughter spending her whole life correcting people and just give her a normal name that you haven’t made up.

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 22/04/2020 19:54

If go Mika too like the character in waterloo rosd. Also wasn't there a make artist in the 2000s called Mika?

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 22/04/2020 19:54

Male not make

absolutehush · 22/04/2020 19:59

Mieke is the spelling I recognise!

@lockdownstress she did tell say was her cousins baby! Super helpful though!

Chilver · 22/04/2020 20:00

Mieke

Changedname81 · 22/04/2020 20:04

@lockdownstress

So my post was about the fact that we had heard the name and didn’t know the correct spelling and were trying to ascertain it therefore having the correct spelling so as not to cause any future hassles.

But as long as you got something out of being snarky, I hope it’s relieved some of the stress you’re feeling.

Thanks the rest of you Grin

oh oops, sorry, massive apology. I must have misread that. So many idiots on this board wanting to land their child with a lifetime of 'how do you spell that' and I just jumped to conclusion

apologetic Flowers and Cake @Changedname81

OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe · 22/04/2020 20:15

Mieke.

Changedname81 · 22/04/2020 20:17

@lockdownstress apology accepted Grin - when lock down over we can share the cake Smile

I probably could have worded it better to be honest, but I think we might be there with Mieke - although that autocorrects to Miele lol

A relative has a Micah (girl) pronounced Meeka.
