DP and I are struggling to agree on a name. These are the favourites so far. Which do you prefer?

Also open to any other suggestions Smile

I'm not keen on Betsy, it sounds a bit like a pet name, I like the other 2 though Grin

june2007 · 20/04/2020 22:36

I don,t like shorten versions so not Betsly and pippa. (Yes to Elizebeth or Phillipa.) I knew a very sweet girl called Delilah it,s quite popular at present but Delilah in the Bible isn,t a nice person so not keen on that either.

NuffSaidSam · 20/04/2020 22:37

Pippa.

Or second choice Betsy.

I don't like Delilah.

DramaAlpaca · 20/04/2020 22:39

I like Delilah, despite the biblical connotations and the song.

Pippa is apparently very rude in several European languages so I'd give that one a swerve, tbh.

I dislike Betsy, it's too cutesy and twee for me.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 20/04/2020 22:40

Pippa is my favourite of those but is slang for penis in Greece. Or Italy. Whichever, I'd give birth certificate name as Philippa for that reason.

Mummytobe0920 · 20/04/2020 22:43

Thank you all for your input.

@DramaAlpaca @MilkTwoSugarsThanks I wasn’t aware of that so that’s helped make the decision easier.

Not 100% on a name so far so I’ll keep looking. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Betsy or Delilah are both lovely
Not Pippa - no way!

Cosyblanky · 20/04/2020 22:45

They've all yuck to me sorry

yikesanotherbooboo · 20/04/2020 22:46

I like Philippa and Elizabeth . I can't shake negative connotations with Delilah. I'm not particularly keen on Betsy as a nickname as it is a bit cutesy to my ear so would opt for Philippa.

123Dancewithme · 21/04/2020 00:38

Delilah. Betsy and Pippa are better as nicknames.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 21/04/2020 00:50

Betsy.

I love Pippa. Betsy is okay but prefer it as a nicknmae.

I really dislike Delilah. Lilah is much nicer.

SomeoneElseEntirelyNow · 21/04/2020 07:15

I have a Philippa who is Pip or Pippa. My DH overruled me on Delilah (comes under the heading of 'Biblical Whores' which is a whole thing apparently, I've never read the bible) and Betsey was the name of my Granny's dog who used to wee in our shoes. So obviously Pippa.

round4 · 21/04/2020 07:41

My friends little girl is called Pippa, she's adorable 😍

MikeUniformMike · 21/04/2020 09:12

Pippa, maybe short for Philippa, or
Betsy, short for Elizabeth, are both nice.

I don't like Delilah at all.

paradisefalls · 21/04/2020 09:16

I love them all but if I had to choose I'd go for Delilah.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 21/04/2020 09:19

Betsy and Pippa sound like nicknames- nothing wrong with that of course!

I like Delilah.

Seagullslanding · 21/04/2020 09:31

My DC 2 is called Betsan. it's a welsh girls name. we call her betsy or Betty boo as a nickname.

the English equivalent is Elizabeth or Betty.

Mucklowe · 21/04/2020 09:43

Betsy, but short for Elizabeth.

Delilah is too hipstery, and the Biblical character isn't great.

Pippa is just not a pleasant sound. And, as other posters have said, it's rude in other languages.

EyeShipMiceElf · 21/04/2020 09:47

Showing my age here but Pippa makes me think of this...

Delilah is lovely, Betsy is ok- better than Pippa.

Betsy, Delilah or Pippa
Carouselfish · 21/04/2020 09:47

Betsy is sweet and cool.
Delilah probably get shortened to Lila so I'm not keen. Not as friendly as Betsy.
Pippa I quite like after I force self to forget Middleton association.

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 21/04/2020 09:52

1.Pippa - Philippa on the birth certificate

  1. Delilah
3.Betsy - with Elizabeth or other similar name on the birth certificate
