Don't love girls names...

So, we have whittled our list for boys down to: Rupert, Felix, Jasper, Jago, Edward, Austen and I've snuck Quentin in there.

We are having so much trouble even liking girl names along a similar vein. We'd like them to be recognisable names but ideally not popular as like most, we'd like them to be the only one in their class. No names feel right to us at the moment and I already feel like I've read a million and one names sites, forums and lists but can't find the one.

I'm hoping you lovely lot can help?!

@ArtichokeAardvark Laura is beautiful. I'm not looking for an out-there, overly frilly or stagey name for our DD. Just one that I don't already associate with a child due to my line of work. Laura is the exact type of underused names I have been looking for and I'm sure you've just read our consideration of Lara.

Our shortlist is as follows:

Rose, Rosie or Rosa
Seren
Rebecca
Holly
Sophie
Olivia (probably too popular unfortunately)

@ArtichokeAardvark sigh maybe don’t come into a thread with that attitude when your daughters own name exactly fits the OP’s criteria 🤦‍♀️🙈

Lobsterquadrille2 · 24/04/2020 23:03

@PixieN love your list in its entirety. I'd go for Rose rather than Rosie or Rosa. I have nieces Holly and Sophie; almost Rebecca and Olivia but other choices prevailed. All lovely.

What about Amy?
I think that's classic, not overly used anymore either.

Love your boys names, Jasper is on my list Mn

I know a baby Lara born last week! It’s a lovely name. I think some of the Evie/Ava/Millie type names are going out of the window at the moment in favour of more classic/timeless names. Other babies born recently that I know of are Eleanor and Miriam.

Some names I’ve only come across once as a teacher not all to my/your taste;

Aeris (Air-iss)
Sylvia
Liddie
Lettie
Juniper
Fearne
Aiobhinn
Siobhanna
Navine
Nadia
Nadine
Nicolette
Noelia
Beulah
Adri (short for Adriana)
Cara
Saffron
Zena
Xavia
Remy
Catalina
Callie
Cadence
Briella
Tamsin
Eden
Marissa
Alana

Decent names that have fallen out of popularity;

Megan
Antonia
Rachel
Maria
Lucia
Chloe
Nicole
Meredith
Lauren
Emma
Rebecca
Catherine
Anna
Helen
Hannah
Marie and Mary
Sarah, Sara
Beth
Tess
Jessica
Leanne
Leah
Sally
Polly
Holly
Camilla
Alexandra

Jasper-Yes!
Jago-No,no,no.
Edward- Love it!!
Austen-perfer Austin better

Grufallosfriends · 07/05/2020 15:24

I really like Constance, Theodora and Estelle! And I think they go well with a hard C surname! How about Antonia or Cecilia?

We have a Quentin btw. Love that too Smile.

Edenember · 07/05/2020 18:56

@FaithHopeandGlory Eseld and Aphra are two girls names I feel are lovely but really underused yet obvious on how to pronounce. Guinevere is gorgeous I think but perhaps not easy to pull off. I also like Orpah, it’s a biblical name, it’s what Oprah Winfrey was meant to be called but her name was misspelt on birth cert. rhymes with orca though .

Edenember · 07/05/2020 19:13

@FaithHopeandGlory also Cleo and Caro. Love Caro
