Arabic name

Hi everyone, I'm due very soon and we have left it a surprise as to whether it's a boy or girl, but we are really struggling with boys names.
We have an Arab/British background which is making it really hard... I tend to like Western names, husband Arabic names, although he isn't incredibly fond of those either.

He likes the name Ammar, sort or pronounced Amm ma. I don't hate it but I feel it sounds a bit feminine.... Pretty sure we won't use it for a first name but maybe middle.... What do you think of it? The meaning is 'one who brings a place back to life' which is nice.

I didn’t read properly but was about to say “Ammar” sounds a lovely name for a little girl!

So yes - I guess it is a bit feminine.

(Am white British btw so never heard the name before. It sounds a bit like Anna to me - which I also like - hence likening it but thinking it was a girls name.)

What about Adam? That should work for both sides.

Since living in the Middle East my favourite names and going on many of the kids in my school who are nice kids:

Girl: Aaliyah, Layla and Joud
Boy: Faisal, Saadiq and Khalifa

Thanks for the suggestions, we have an Adam in the family and almost every other boy we meet from an Arabic background is called Adam😂

Not for a boy, it sounds feminine tbh.

I know Adam, Zak, Rayan, Hardy, Haris, Ben and Billy (Bilal)

For girls it's easier to find names that are pretty and commonly used in English too - Naima, Zaina, Laila, Aisha, Miriam etc

Love the name Zaine really wanted this name for one of our boys. Not from an Arabic background but know boys who are with this name.

Thanks for the suggestion tealand... Those are cool names but I would like names that come down a little more in the middle rather than heavily Arabic. We were thinking of Noah as it has an Arabic pronunciation too, but I'm not sure because it seems so popular.

I love it, I've taught quite a lot of Ammars in the Middle East and where I live it seems quite common as a male name for people of Pakistani heritage too

It wouldn't even occur to me that it's a girl's name!

For a middle name, I think it's perfectly fine.

I like Ben, but husband doesn't. Billy would be the only other that appeals but doubt husband would even like Bilal, let alone Billy🤣
Like Adam, Zain is a very popular name amongst British Arabs. I like sam/Sammy but it's my dad's name so my husband wouldn't want a boy named after him😂

Where is he from - maybe a classic name from there?

Is the surname Arabic also? Another option is obviously an Arabic middle name.

How about Ayman, I know an Irish/Arab couple who went for it as it is fine in both cultures although Irish spelling is different.

Amma is the name of a blue elephant with a jamaican accent in the kids tv program Bing. You'll probably end up watch a lot of Bing so work out if you want you child to share a name with one of the characters!

I live in Abu Dhabi so my view of Arabic names is probably a lot more in tune than most brits, but Ammar is very much a male name.
