Hi all, DH and I are discussing names and this one we actually seem to agree on. What are your thoughts?

It's come up on a couple of threads but I thought it may be helpful for us and some others to have some thoughts on this name itself.

Monty or Montgomery is a lovely name! Please dont laugh but my parents named there new golden retriever Montgomery or monty for short! I couldn't picture a child with it unfortunately, best if luck

I like a strong male name like Philip or William

Sorry, but it makes me think of Withnail and I!

A dog’s name sorry

The first association that springs to mind to me is Field Marshal "Monty" Montgomery, who was quite a controversial figure.

He could be Montagu (or Montague) like Monty Don. I think I prefer that to be honest.
I like the name though.

My childhood dog was Monty.

I think it’s one of the worse boys names out there. However you like your Dh likes it, so. It doesn’t matter what I think

I like it although I’m not brave enough to use it myself.

It makes me think of the simpsons character monty burns or the rem song which I think was about Montgomery Clift

Not quite sure why so many people have taken to giving it to their dogs 🤷‍♀️

I hate it when people say this so I do apologise but Monty is most definitely a dog name.
(There are other names which can be used for pets that I wouldn't write off quite so readily, but for some reason Monty is just for dogs in my mind!)

It’s not to my liking. Can’t imagine a grown up man called Monty ..or a baby come to think of it!

I don’t know many dogs, let alone ones called Monty... I think it’s a very cute name. Classy without being pretentious. I imagine Monty with a quiff and impeccable manners. Certainly a refreshing change from all the Noahs, Zacs and Leos out there!
