What do you all think of Xanthe, pronounced Zan-thee?

I really like it! Very pretty.

I think the constant clarification of spelling and pronunciation would drive me insane though, but if you could put up with that go for it Grin

BikeRunSki · 14/04/2020 09:11

I like it. I know one who is about 1 and went to school with one who must be in her 50s by now. I don’t think the pronounciation is that difficult??

CatkinToadflax · 14/04/2020 09:19

It’s my dog’s name (please don’t let this put you off - she’s very beautiful and the most amazing dog! Grin). I’m always surprised by the number of people who either hear it and don’t know how to spell it, or see it written down and have no idea how to pronounce it. But it’s a lovely name.

Fairybobbin · 14/04/2020 09:19

Love it, unusual and pretty.
She was also a sweet character in Neighbours 🤷‍♀️

daisypond · 14/04/2020 09:20

I like it. I know an adult one.

Ellmau · 14/04/2020 09:33

It's lovely.

thamesk8 · 16/04/2020 21:23

I know a super cool 18 year old Xanthe - LOVE it!

Gibble1 · 16/04/2020 21:29

I know a Xanthe and she’s beautiful and kind.

Finnemoo · 16/04/2020 21:44

Love it

kitchenquestions · 05/05/2020 16:00

We have a teenage Xanthe and she adores it as do we! She has had some bonkers spellings over the years but it's all character building!

troppibambini · 05/05/2020 16:22

Love it

LotusClover · 05/05/2020 16:51

Don't like it. I would've looked at it and assumed it was pronounced "zan-thuh" to rhyme with "panther". I don't find the name particularly attractive to look at either.

I feel like I'm always that one negative person on these threads Grin but I'm just giving my opinion. It's not my taste sorry.

zscaler · 05/05/2020 16:53

I always thought it was pronounced ee-an-they - every day is a schoolday!

I think it’s nice, and not too popular.

babynamesarehard · 05/05/2020 16:56

I love it for a boy!

FizzyGreenWater · 05/05/2020 17:07

Love it

Mucklowe · 05/05/2020 17:08

Dreadful. Sounds like a brand of chewing gum.

MillicentMartha · 05/05/2020 17:12

I know a lovely 18 yo Xanthe. I wonder if it’s the same one, @thamesk8? The pronunciation is quite easy, it’s Greek so like Penelope.

Pinkblueberry · 05/05/2020 17:43

It’s ok. I think it’s one of those names that looks a lot prettier written down than said out loud. I doubt people would like it half so much if it was really spelt ‘Zanthy’.

Cbeebiesrehab · 05/05/2020 17:44

I like it.

lollipoplola · 05/05/2020 17:46

I love this name, DH didn't though

Inaquandry19 · 05/05/2020 17:48

Was my first choice for a girl. Dp didn't like it but we had a boy so didn't have to have that argument.

Changedname81 · 05/05/2020 17:48

Think you might be thinking Ianthe zscaler Smile

missmouse101 · 05/05/2020 17:50

Nice!

DramaAlpaca · 05/05/2020 18:06

@BikeRunSki I also went to school with a Xanthe who's now in her 50s. There can't have been many around, I wonder if it's the same one?

Anyway, it's a beautiful name.

exLtEveDallas · 05/05/2020 18:09

It should have been DDs name. But it means ‘Golden’ and the chances of DH and I having a blonde/golden child were negligible, so we didn’t have it. I still love the name.
