Hi we are trying to agree on baby boy names and could do with some help.. we've been living abroad for the past few years (but moving back to have this baby) and want to know if any (or all?) of these are super, super popular? We will be in the South East (not London though)
-Max
-Felix
-Toby/Tobias
-Fred/Freddie/Frederick

Thanks for any input :-)

I wouldn't say any of them are super popular, no. My preference (in order) is:
Toby
Felix
Max
Freddie

allaboardthesinkingship · 07/04/2020 13:57

Felix is my fave

AJTracey · 07/04/2020 13:58

Freddie was done ten years ago.

SoftBlocks · 07/04/2020 13:58

Felix.

Greenbutterlfy566 · 07/04/2020 13:58

Fred

Peachbubble · 07/04/2020 14:00

Felix is my favourite. Max and Freddie were very popular, not so much now.

Ellamab · 07/04/2020 14:35

Thanks everyone. I also forgot to add Seb/Sebastian to the list so any thoughts on that one welcome too.

I love Toby and Sebastian. Of your choices I’d say Freddie is probably the most commonly used

ofwarren · 07/04/2020 14:43

Tobias and Sebastian are my favourites from your list.
I agree that Fred/Freddie has been done to death.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 07/04/2020 14:45

I like Felix but I'm biased Wink

It is easy to spell and pronounce, works in multiple languages, and has a lovely meaning.

NameChange30 · 07/04/2020 14:52

I like your list! Very similar to my taste.
Toby is my favourite and I also love Max.
I also like Leo (very popular in recent years) and Ivo (for something more unusual).

NameChange30 · 07/04/2020 14:53

To work out popularity just look up the ONS lists. They break it down by region too.

Skeeter2020 · 07/04/2020 14:57

Max is a dog's name and Felix a cat's name.

Tobias is nice

Frederick/ Fred/ Freddie is classy

NameChange30 · 07/04/2020 14:59

I was waiting for someone to say that about Max and Felix Grin Still lovely names!

Dyra · 07/04/2020 15:01

From most to least liked:
Sebastian
Max
Felix
Tobias
Virtually any other name
Fred/Freddie/Frederick

Lozz22 · 07/04/2020 15:02

Felix

Ellamab · 07/04/2020 15:05

Yeahh that type of thing doesn't bother me... I love the name Cleo for a girl and don't mind a jot that people of think of a car or , apparently, a cat. I think when you meet a kid with that name it all goes out the window anyway.

Thanks for feedback everyone.. .. I've just put up a girl's post if anyone fancies having a look at that too Smile

Max and Freddie were very popular but less so now - lots of them my ds1's age (14) and a bit younger.

Toby is my favourite, followed by Seb then Felix. Toby was on our shortlist for ds2

I don't dislike any of your choices though.

diddlediddle · 07/04/2020 15:19

Lots of Fred/Freddie in SE. Bit dull.

Felix has been v popular in recent years too, a bit zeitgeisty,

Max is more of a classic - can't go wrong - and I haven't met any Toby or Tobias. Both nice.

Know a few Sebastians and don't really like it.

NamedyChangedy · 07/04/2020 15:22

Coincidentally we have one of each of these in my son's year 4 class! They're all lovely boys.

Rugbycomet · 07/04/2020 15:26

Felix but I’m biased too

Wolfgirrl · 07/04/2020 15:30

Felix is a bit posh and try hard. Reminds me of cat food.

My favourite is Fred - suits a cheeky boy and older man, nice solid traditional name and all the Fred's I've known have been lovely and well mannered.

lessness · 07/04/2020 15:31

Felix Star

NameChange30 · 07/04/2020 15:32

Please share a link to your girls name thread! I can't find it (can't search by username atm which is annoying). I'm interested as I'm pregnant with a girl Smile

userabcname · 07/04/2020 15:33

Toby is very popular among primary aged kids in my area and I know one under 5. Freddie and Max are fairly popular although I like both. I love Felix - I'd say that's less popular although I do know about 3 pre-schoolers named that. Sebastian is gorgeous- it was on my list for ds2. My friend told me it's spiking in popularity currently though, although I don't know any personally. I'm in the south west.
