Middle name for indie?

Hello, a bit of a different post with all the chaos right now but trying to take my mind off it by deciding dd (due next month) name. Pretty much decided on indie ( although if you hate it do say so and why!!). I’m struggling to decide on a middle name- I want something cute and one syllable I think, so far i like Rose, Grace and Skye. Which do you prefer and why?/ any other suggestions?
Thanks 😊

Thankyou for the lovely responses to Mila- I really am coming round to it! what does everyone think of Mila Skye? xx

Crazynurse98 · 29/03/2020 18:02

or Mila Ivy?!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 29/03/2020 18:04

Mila is better than Indie, but I'd have assumed from the spelling that it would be pronounced Mylah, not Meelah. You might want to think about that.

Since you did actually ask (Blush) I think Indie/Indy is a really lovely NN/diminutive for India or Indigo but as a stand-alone name it will date really badly and leave your child without a less “cutesy” formal option later in life, should see want one for work or any other reason.

For some reason, Indie/Indy suddenly took off as a baby name in the past two years, I’d having a moment and will go away again. So when your DD is 50 she will be very obviously 50 and won’t be able to pass as 45, should she want to (again maybe work reasons).

All school and nursery registration forms now have a “known as” box so giving her a slightly longer, marginally more conventional name and insisting she always goes by “Indie” is totally doable.

Whatsyourflava · 29/03/2020 18:36

@ArriettyJones but Indie/India/Indigo just aren’t common enough to really “date”, certainly with current numbers anyway. It’s too rare a name to be be able to pinpoint a year. It may sound trendy but actually the most recent official government statistics we have Indie is well outside the top 200 names, India is just inside the top 200 but neither are on a steep uphill trajectory. Names like “Sarah” and “Kate” for example have dated badly because both were top 10 in the 1980s and are both now outside top 100.
Look at top 200 names from the year you were born. Names that were at number 200 in the 1980s for example may be much rarer now but they will not date in the way top 10 names do because so few people have names that are at number 200 in the charts

Another vote for Anna Jones.

I wouldn’t lump them all in together in terms of dating.

India is a much longer established name, for example. You meet Indias of all ages.

I think Indie specifically will turn out to be a small peak of babies born maybe 2018-2024

I'm not mad on Indie. How about Melinda? That way you can call her Indie and she has some choices later...

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 30/03/2020 09:09

#Indyref2

TheYearOfTheDog · 30/03/2020 09:34

I quite like the sound of Indie and can see why it's trendy. Indie record labels etc. Indie is the opposite of global.

I know of a girl (acquaintance of my daughter) who was called Indie short for Indiana 18 years ago so it's a name that has been trendy for a long time already which makes me think it's on the downward slope.

Some people don't care at all about that though.

I would put an L in front of it and go for Lindy instead, maybe Belinda with Lindy for short. Or Bindy.

As a middle name, hmm, Juliet. Lindy Juliet. Lindy Beatrice, Lindy Susannah

TheYearOfTheDog · 30/03/2020 09:54

@Whatsyourflava I hadn't read your post when I made mine but I disagree with your opinion that a name can't date because it was never popular enough.

Just because it is not in the same league as Tracy or Wayne doesn't mean it won't date.

sibbys · 30/03/2020 18:22

Please don't pick Mila just because people are taking the piss. Indie is lovely. After you posted it's on the top of our list!

Crazynurse98 · 02/04/2020 15:06

thankyou everyone for the help! i'm now having a complete rethink after coming across the name Orla on another post on here- I've completely fallen in love with it and its meaning- what does everyone think? x

ArriettyJones · 02/04/2020 15:09

Love it. One of the loveliest girls at my school was called Orla. It is really pretty, but simple, and equally appropriate for a child or a woman.

You realise it’s an anglicised spelling of Orlagh? Which to me, is more appropriate if you’re English, but just though I’d mention it.

NC4Now · 02/04/2020 15:15

I love Orla but I also love Indie. I think I’d go for India Rose, with Indie as a nickname. I am a middle aged indie kid though, so it would suit me to have a DD with that name Grin

Flymetothestars · 02/04/2020 15:47

Love the name Indie

Flymetothestars · 02/04/2020 15:48

A great choice @Glitterball01
