Noah or Loxley?

charliem20 · 24/03/2020 20:38

I'm 25 weeks pregnant with a baby boy. Ever since we found out I'm having a boy, my partner and I have been calling him Noah, but lately we've been falling out of love with the name because of how popular it's becoming.

I found the name Loxley and I fell in love. It's super uncommon, but is it too out there?

What do you think? I'm open to any other name suggestions.

Noah. Please!

GoFiguire · 24/03/2020 20:42

Are you a fan of The Archers?

Squ1ggle · 24/03/2020 20:43

Loxley makes me think of Robin Hood

villamariavintrapp · 24/03/2020 20:43

Noah. Unless popularity is the only thing that matters..

PaulinePetrovaPosey · 24/03/2020 20:46

Noah.

CastleSalem · 24/03/2020 20:46

Loxley also makes me think of Robin Hood. And not in a good way. Noah is far nicer.

Fartlek · 24/03/2020 20:49

Loxley makes me think of bagels and lox which is brined salmon. Noah, please.

Noah, Loxley is ridiculous. (I also thought of Robin Hood, although I think he was Robin of Locksley).

Gooseysgirl · 24/03/2020 20:51

Lochlann/Lachlan?

SpendAPennyPenny · 24/03/2020 20:51

I like both, actually!

How about Lachlan ("Lachy")?

SpendAPennyPenny · 24/03/2020 20:51

Ah, beat me to it @Gooseysgirl !

Sugarpea123 · 24/03/2020 20:52

Not Loxley 🙈

RaspberryBubblegum · 24/03/2020 20:53

I love Loxley! Agree noah is very common... And also makes me think of an old man with a beard. Not a baby 😅

TheCraicDealer · 24/03/2020 20:57

I like Noah but it is getting very common, lots about round here. However, Loxley sounds like the baddy from an X-Men film. Don't do it.

AnotherMurkyDay · 24/03/2020 21:02

Noah of those two, but it is very popular so depends if that matters to you or not. What about Logan? Love Lochlann/Lochlainn as well

Flymetothestars · 24/03/2020 21:07

Noah!! It’s such a lovely name and you say “it’s becoming” popular but actually it’s not starting to fal in popularity. There were fewer Noah’s in 2018 (the last year we have official statistics for) than 2017 and 2016. It’s been falling in numbers for the past 3-4 years. I’ve got a baby and there’s been no Noah’s at any of the baby groups I’m at. I’d stick with the original name you loved - it’s so gorgeous

TenThousandSpoons · 24/03/2020 21:08

Noah by a mile! I don’t think it’s that popular at the moment, it was about 8 years ago. Loxley is not popular for a reason.

Flymetothestars · 24/03/2020 21:08

sorry I meant to say it’s now* falling in popularity and it’s numbers have been declining year on year since 2015

Flymetothestars · 24/03/2020 21:09

@TenThousandSpoons yes totally agree far less Noah’s around now and that’s reflected in the official statistics

BackforGood · 24/03/2020 21:15

I think Noah has been quite popular over recent years but at least it is a proper name.

Loxley is awful. Sounds like a surname. Terrible idea.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 24/03/2020 21:18

Noah

Fairenuff · 24/03/2020 21:18

Would you like to introduce yourself as "Hi, I'm Loxley"?

That's how I decide if I Iike a name or not.

Omashu · 24/03/2020 21:21

I want to like it because it’s unusual and I don’t like common names. But I just really really don’t like it! It’s a bit clunky and sickly to me.

RedRec · 24/03/2020 21:23

Loxley is terrible. Noah is nice.

WildCherryBlossom · 24/03/2020 21:36

Lower Loxley? A place in The Archers?

Aside from that it sounds a bit like a pet's name to me (like Baxter)

So I would choose Noah.
