So far it's the only name me and my husband have both liked for our baby girl.

How is it pronounced?

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 07/03/2020 20:47

Oooh I like it.

AppleBlossomTimeNow · 07/03/2020 20:47

Earith is a village in Cambridgeshire...

waterbottle12 · 07/03/2020 20:47

A lifetime of having to correct the spelling and pronunciation of your name. Poor kid.

Firecracker2019 · 07/03/2020 20:49

Welsh? Aye-rith?
Hmmm... not sure I like it personally.

erised · 07/03/2020 20:51

Silent A so pronounced "Erith".

@waterbottle12 I get the same thing though and I have a pretty basic name...

Erith is a place in Kent...not one of the lovely parts either. I can't get past that.

So many beautiful names and you choose a place in Kent.

erised · 07/03/2020 20:57

@user1493494961 no need to be rude about it. How would we know its a place when we live no where near it.

Oh, no, no, no!

Erith (Eriff) is a place on the borders of SE London and NW Kent and definitely not somewhere you'd want to be named after!

I'm guessing you'd be pronouncing it differently, but even so...

DeanImpala67 · 07/03/2020 20:58

Aerith will forever be the character in Final Fantasy 7 who made me cry when I played the game. Lovely name. Was anglicised into Aeris though for the english language releases.

Binterested · 07/03/2020 20:59

Also the late great Linda Smith was from Erith. She said ‘Erith doesn’t have a twin town. But it does have a suicide pact with Dagenham’ Grin

Anyone who knows Erith will think of this joke. But I must admit it does sound quite pretty which Erith isn’t Smile

MaryHerbert · 07/03/2020 20:59

There are lots of lovely places in Kent. Erith unfortunately just isn't one of them.

SpeedofaSloth · 07/03/2020 21:00

I wouldn't know how to pronounce it, and I'd have to ask how it was spelled. Your child might possibly find that a bit wearing in later life.

SlayingDragons · 07/03/2020 21:00

My first thought was Cherith without the ‘Ch’ - it sounds a bit odd to me - like someone just said half a name.

I do acknowledge however that while Cherith is a very recognisable name where I live, and as such I think other people would find Airith odd, it’s not a common name in the rest of the UK so people in other places wouldn’t make the same connection.

erised · 07/03/2020 21:00

@DeanImpala67 yes, this is where we got the idea from.

Sorry - Aerith

Queenofheartsnomore · 07/03/2020 21:01

I don't like it at all sorry.

MetalMidget · 07/03/2020 21:01

Aerith's a lovely name, just keep her away from long haired dudes with massive swords.

Wetcarparkrain · 07/03/2020 21:01

Love it!

Whatsyourflava · 07/03/2020 21:03

I think it’s going to be a really annoying name for her to have, I’m sorry

How about Edith or something people can spell? I also am sometimes questioned on the spelling of my name (even though it’s very basic) but it’s very easy to explain quickly how to spell out my name
Aerith is going to be much more tricky

“It’s Aerith so..A”

“A?? Did you say E?”

“No A then E”

I dunno but I wouldn’t like it

GreyishDays · 07/03/2020 21:03

What about Eris instead?

GetTheSprinkles · 07/03/2020 21:15

Not a fan at all. Reminds me of the Aero chocolate bar.
What about Erin?

TressiliansStone · 07/03/2020 21:20

Next child Belvedere?

Then Abby, would you think?
