I've taking a real liking to the name Libby, not short for anything just Libby as a stand alone name, what do you think?

I’m a fan

Whatsyourflava · 06/03/2020 19:10

I like it!
I think you’ll get a lot of MN people commenting saying “register her as Elizabeth to give her a choice” but I disagree. The short version of my name is on my birth certificate and I’m glad it is, just makes everything straightforward

Bobbiepin · 06/03/2020 19:11

Love it!

TheVanguardSix · 06/03/2020 19:12

One of my oldest friends is a Libby. I don't know if her name is actually Elizabeth. I can't remember (we've known each other 40 years, so I should know!). But it's a lovely name and the Libby I know is an amazingly lovely, happy person. She does a lot of good for others.

DustyMaiden · 06/03/2020 19:14

DGDD is a Libby. I like it.

YessicaHaircut · 06/03/2020 19:16

I like it too and it was on our list of girls names (have since found out we’re having a boy), Liberty with nn Libby.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 06/03/2020 19:19

Love it. It’s timeless. Libby’s are in every age group. Ds2 would have been a Libby, he’s 21 now. I haven’t gone off it at all.

Firsttimemama2017 · 06/03/2020 19:22

Love it and would have used it if baby number 2 had been a girl!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 06/03/2020 19:23

I think it's a great name. I'd use Liberty, but (a) I have two sons and (b) it sounds ridiculous with our surname 😭

Ughmaybenot · 06/03/2020 19:23

One of my best friends has just had the most gorgeous little girl and she’s a Libby. I absolutely love it 😍

Baker1985 · 06/03/2020 19:28

My Daughters name not short for anything spelt libbie.

paperandfireworks · 06/03/2020 19:30

Love it!

pigdogridesagain · 06/03/2020 19:33

My 16 year old daughters name 😀 I love it

FuckingHateRats · 06/03/2020 19:34

My sister's name. She's an Elizabeth by birth cert and she does use it sometimes, although Libby most of the time. Am a fan.

daisypond · 06/03/2020 19:39

I’m one who would go for Elizabeth or perhaps Liberty on birth certificate. I have a shortened version of a longer name and I’ve hated it most of my life. The longer version hasn’t dated and is much classier. Libby has a rather unpleasant sound/image to me- reminds me of blubber.

M0mmyneedswine · 06/03/2020 19:44

I like it, prefer it to Elizabeth

Whatsyourflava · 06/03/2020 19:53

I wonder if we have the same name @daisypond 😃

Boireannachlaidir · 06/03/2020 19:54

I like it and the only know two I have ever known have been fab people Smile

glitterbiscuits · 06/03/2020 19:55

Another fan here.

Lindy2 · 06/03/2020 19:58

I like it but I'd go for Liberty or Elizabeth as the "proper" name.

As an adult your daughter might want a less cute name option.

TheYearOfTheDog · 06/03/2020 20:00

I like it!

I don't like Liberty though. I'm one of those who'd personally go for Elizabeth on the bc. But whether you do or you don't, Libby is lovely

IHaveBrilloHair · 06/03/2020 20:12

Elizabeth here too.
Libby is lovely but give her the choice.

Jossina · 06/03/2020 20:15

Elizabeth with the nn Libby. I've know a Libby since we were children and she actually admitted she was so glad she had Elizabeth to fall back on as she got older. Only family and close friends still call her Libby.

jenniuol · 06/03/2020 20:22

I Love it! I have a ‘proper name’ that I was never ever known by and I hate it! Especially since the name I’ve always been called starts with a different letter to my ‘proper name’. Just like Libby/Elizabeth. To this day I fight with banks, dentists etc if I fail to give the ‘right’ name. Just call your children what you actually want them to be called! Give children the name everyone will call them. Ds has a name that cannot be shortened/changed and any future children will have the same.

ZebraKid71 · 06/03/2020 20:36

I'm in the full name camp but I do like Libby and have heard of quite a few little ones recently who are just Libby as a full name.
