Lily

I’m trying to talk myself out of this because it’s popular and not very original. But I really do like it. I can’t decide what I would regret more - not using it or having her be one of many in classes/groups etc.

DD1 is Ruby. I have explored a lot of options on her with MN and find it useful for honesty! So really just looking for opinions and also how many babies do you know named Lily?

I don't know any girl babies at the moment.

But lily is pretty without being cloying, timeless and goes well with ruby.

VioletVerity · 25/02/2020 14:13

I love Lily OP, if you love it - go with it!
I only know 1 Lily.

My DD is Violet & that's getting more popular but I don't care. It was the only girls name I loved.

LetItGoHome · 25/02/2020 14:16

I prefer Lilian. You would still get to call her Lily. I shouldn't think there will be any other Lilian's in the class x

AllStar14 · 25/02/2020 14:27

I know 3 Lily's, it is a lovely name.

Whatsyourflava · 25/02/2020 14:35

I just adore Lily too

@mamablondie the numbers of babies called Lily have been falling every year since 2011 so it’s way less popular now than when you had Ruby

For me the popularity of a name isn’t as important as the trajectory. If a name is about to boom (ie any of the “fastest rising top 100 names”) then I’d avoid it. But a name like Lily I would use.

I don’t know any babies called Lily by the way

Pickle55 · 25/02/2020 17:45

I know one baby called Lily who was born last August. It’s a pretty name.

DramaAlpaca · 25/02/2020 18:37

I really love Lily. It's old fashioned, simple and sweet. I don't care if it's popular. It goes well with Ruby.

Doodlesquah1 · 25/02/2020 19:18

I know siblings called lily and ruby. I love both names! Yes Lily is very popular but it’s a lovely name

FriedasCarLoad · 25/02/2020 19:23

I know several babies/girls called Lily. None called Lillian though...

Moonfacebiggins · 25/02/2020 19:33

I have a 16 year old lily and there isn't another in her year at school. I love the name and couldn't think of calling her anything else. Although Jasmine was my second choice (didn't call my second daughter that though!)

ZoeandChandon · 25/02/2020 19:40

I think 2 names ending with y sounds too twee.

Xanadu58 · 25/02/2020 19:41

We've got a Lily and Ruby (siblings) in our family. Lily is a lovely name .

mamablondie · 25/02/2020 20:11

@Moonfacebiggins Jasmine is on my list also!

I have an 18 year old Lily. She was always the only Lily in her school so not as common as you might think.

However I would have called her Lola or Lila I think as an alternative.

DoctorBambino · 25/02/2020 20:41

I work with children and have done for 12 years. I am yet to meet a Lily actually.

123Dancewithme · 25/02/2020 21:56

Lily goes really well with Ruby

EmotionalEllie · 25/02/2020 21:59

I dont know any. I think it's a lovely name goes well with ruby too.

FamilyOfAliens · 25/02/2020 22:01

I used to love it until a certain Labour Women’s Officer came along ...

Frazzled2207 · 25/02/2020 22:01

I know loads of little Lilys.

Nice name. Whatever you do though don't spell it Lilly. Never got that at all.

mamablondie · 25/02/2020 22:03

@Frazzled2207 yes I totally agree I can’t stand the alternative spellings, it’s a noun!

I love lily! My baby girl is due very soon and we plan on calling her lilliana ☺️ x

SpaceDinosaur · 25/02/2020 22:13

I know 6 Lily's under 5. It wasn't common but it is becoming more popular.

Doesn't stop it being a lovely name

ellenpartridge · 25/02/2020 22:16

I can only think of two babies I know called Lily and various adults. If you love it, use it. It's a lovely name.

Xmasfairy86 · 25/02/2020 22:19

I know of 6 Lily’s ranging from 18 months - 14 years.

The Ruby’s I know have sisters called Cara and Grace.

I think it goes lovely with Ruby as a sibling.

One is spelt Lilie
