I'm expecting a second child and struggling with name ideas. Not sure of the gender yet but would like something unique that you don't find often. My husband is a botanist which is why we called our daughter Sequoiadendron (Sequoia for short!) and we're looking for something similar that's plant related.
Thanks in advance for the help fellow mums!! :)

My father was a builder. Lots of pretty name potential there. Lintel. Bevel. Soffit. Concretia.

theoriginalmadambee · 25/02/2020 12:48

A bit long perhaps

My H is a bathroom fitter. We have pollyfila (polly for short) and Tyler (get it Grin)

Orchid - for a boy or girl.

It means 'testicle'.

So beautiful.

Maduixa · 25/02/2020 12:55

I like shorter nicknames, so I've suggested some along with the formal names:

Hemlockburnum (Loki)
Dogwoodberry (Woody or Bear)
Tupelosythia (Lola)
Sassafrasdrangea (Angie)
Shagbarkzalea (Shag or Barry)
Sugarmaplemallow (Shuggo - obv not with Shag unless twins!)
Gingkoboronia (Ron)

Geranium

BumbleBeeFlower · 25/02/2020 12:59

Assuming this thread is a joke then I put in:

Rubus Cockburnianus

Yes it is a real plant! Always wondered what the discoverer was doing with the plant to give it that name 😂😂

evilharpy · 25/02/2020 12:59

Shrubbery

theoriginalmadambee · 25/02/2020 13:01

@BumbleBeeFlower
I looked it up, makes you wonder 🤣.

angell84 · 25/02/2020 13:02

Sequioadendron.

Wow

GinAndTings · 25/02/2020 13:04

wow lol

OhMsBeliever · 25/02/2020 13:05

My ex was a plumber. Our kids, Copperpipe, Cistern, Outsidetap, and Ensuiteshowerroom have never had any problems with their names.

It's a great way to name your kids.

BumbleBeeFlower · 25/02/2020 13:05

@madambee it always makes me chuckle. So immature of me!

sashh · 25/02/2020 13:07

Ballonz?

JustBeKind · 25/02/2020 13:07

Polyanthus would be a pretty name for a girl. Polly for short.

theoriginalmadambee · 25/02/2020 13:08

@BumbleBeeFlower you are not alone, the images this brings along 😂.

PlanDeRaccordement · 25/02/2020 13:11

Sorry to derail, was looking up the cockburn and came across this, hope it brightens your day Grin.

Eglantine

SeeUNextTuesday · 25/02/2020 13:17

Ah yeah @floffel like off Bedknobs and Broomsticks ! Not enough Eglantine's in the world these days.

Double3xposure · 25/02/2020 13:18

I’d go for something more unusual next time. Maybe a monotype?

Cephalotus follicularis has a nice ring to it. Cephie for short.

StarUtopia · 25/02/2020 13:18

This isn't serious, surely?!

No one would really call their kid that..would they?? (and yes, teachers will judge and kids will take the mic out of your child for the rest of her life)

Please dear god, if this is true, give your second child a nice solid normal nice like Simon or Alice.

floffel · 25/02/2020 13:21

Sorry posted too soon! As I’m sure you and your husband are aware, Eglantine is the other name for Sweetbriar
