I'm expecting a second child and struggling with name ideas. Not sure of the gender yet but would like something unique that you don't find often. My husband is a botanist which is why we called our daughter Sequoiadendron (Sequoia for short!) and we're looking for something similar that's plant related.
Thanks in advance for the help fellow mums!! :)

It's quite funny how some things 'work' as names and others don't. Actually, Sequoia 'works' fine imo - it's the 'dendron' part which makes people look askance. It's essentially a more pretentious version of calling a child eg Willowtree rather than Willow.

Heather or the Latin version Erica.

The Shard's best friend, Bethany, has a cousin called Hedge Fund! Now that sounds fucking ridiculous until you hear that her mum is actually a financial advisor. So, that makes sense.

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 26/02/2020 20:26

Please. You cannot name a child Rhododendron. Might as well call them Fatsia Japonica.

whattodo2019 · 26/02/2020 22:42

Azalea

Daisy was popular a few years ago. I guess that’s gone out of fashion now? What’s wrong with Daisy??

Ha ha ha, this thread is hilarious!
Loving your sense of humour OP (because surely you can't be serious).

@Flaskmaster - loving your work!

Oh, what an incredible name! I love it when parents give their DC names related to things they are passionate about.

We have a friend who is a sea captain. His DD is called 'Sealoa' (sea-LOW-ah). Which I think is the most beautiful-sounding name. It stands for 'Sea Level Over All', or something like that.

OP, ignore people slating your DC's names. Their DC probably have really boring names.

Of course after Twentypercentoff was circumcised we called him TwentyOnepercentoff. It's important to get these things just right.

Acer?

What’s your job OP!? Maybe something to compliment your job instead? Grin

JudyCoolibar · 26/02/2020 23:44

Our local pest control officer has children called Rat, Cockroach and Warfarin. And you don't want to know what the sewage worker's children are called.

HeadLikeAFuckinOrange · 27/02/2020 02:47

XH was a Doctor and I'm a WW2 Historian, I actually think it's sweet way to add a personal touch to your child's name.

We named our DD Herpes Hitler.

Pinkarsedfly · 27/02/2020 08:06

I’m a teacher.

My kids, Requires Improvement and Outstanding, have no issues at all with their names.

And we’ll finish family therapy very soon, so that’s good.

HelgaHere1 · 27/02/2020 08:17

Euphorbia and Salix

Booboostwo · 27/02/2020 08:22

Little Herpeshitler wins the thread.

I’m a philosopher so I went with Ontology and Logicaldenominator. Onti and Logi for short, although Logicaldenominator insists on the full version, he is a stickler for rules.

nevertrustaninja · 27/02/2020 08:51

Gosh hark at you lot showing off about your posh jobs! I'm a stay at home Mum and my children are called Zoflora, Cif and Viakal. Their names are lovely, not too difficult to spell and sound a bit exotic.

ChilliMayo · 27/02/2020 08:53

I'm in social care management and have 2 dc, Clinelle and Milton.

AnneKipanki · 27/02/2020 09:04

Your children are the cleanest @ChilliMayo and @nevertrustaninja .

nevertrustaninja · 27/02/2020 09:23

aw thanks AnneKipanki Smile

ChocoChunk1 · 27/02/2020 09:34

I have no desire to expand family now but as a tube station supervisor maybe I should have named DD Victoria. For a boy, Euston or Warren (street).

HappydaysArehere · 27/02/2020 09:39

Great joke. Love some of the answers.
